I know its summer but what do you folks think would be a good 5ft blower. i don't plan on any heavy commercial work maybe a parking lot or two. it does get kind of snowy here once in a while. my tractor is a cub cadet 7530 30hp 4wd. any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated and i have plenty of time to purchase one. i don't want to get caught short in the fall time. a local dealer has a few in stock but they look sort of flimsy and the drive chains are open. is this normal?

Jaab,
I'm not sure if you're looking for a front or rear snow blower, but I have been very pleased with my Puma 74" rear blower. It is made by "Pronovost". They make a 54" ( I think ) as well as a 64". The 64" which I am led to believe from their web site, mounts on front. Mine was reasonably priced and seems quite heavy duty. Forgive me if you already know this, but a front mount blower ( although probably worth it for conveinence ) is much more costly to buy compared to a rear mount. I have a 30hp New Holland with 24 ptohp just to give you reference. Hope this helps! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the pronovost puma 64" 3 pt. blower. I used it 4 times one season. Very HD in my opinion and throws snow 20'-30'. It was too much strain on my neck and back sitting sideways and backing up so I havent used it since. I found it easier and faster for me to just plow with the bucket. Drive chain on mine is inside the frame and kinda boxed in. Someone else just posted the snowblower question a few days ago. I may consider selling mine and spending a few bucks more on a front mount blower but havent checked with my dealer on a front mount blower yet.

If you plan on using it for more than 20 min at a time, IMO, going to a front mount blower/thrower is well worth the money. I've had both chain and gear box throwers. The chain driven ones are a little lower cost, but over time the price is equaled out with the need to maintain the chain and gears. Keep the chain lubed, and being exposed is a non issue. Like a lot of things, it's all in how it's taken care of.
