Tractor
John Deere 790 (sold)
I’m thinking about getting the FEMCO 3ph 60 gallon boom sprayer with the PTO pump and hand sprayer from Tractor Supply Co and have a couple of questions.

1) Regarding the PTO pump, what is the difference between a 6 roller and an 8 roller pump? I get the fact one has two more rollers, but what is a roller and why would more of them be better / worse? I have read in other threads to make sure to clean and lube after use, so I will.

2) Can I buy a bushing kit and use this with my i-Match (i-Match is John Deere’s quick hitch system)? If not, how hard are these to put on and take off the tractor? Is there a different manufacture that makes a 3ph model that does work with the i-Match system?

If you have any other thoughts or wisdom to pass on; please do, I need all the help I can get! Thanks in advance.

Here is a recent thread on cleaning a roller pump. Click Here In it you will find a link to a manufactures site with pictures of pumps. Unless you are running a boom over 20'. You should not need more than a 6 roller pump.

I have that sprayer for my 2520 and I-match and it works great. I had to drill a new hole for the top link in the sprayer about 6 inches lower with a 3/4 drill bit. Also, it sits too low on the ground for the i-match to pick up so I set on wood blocks when i'm done. It's the best way for me to spray weeds on 4 acres of lawn.

I bought a PK sprayer from Rural King after several comparisons with the Fimco. I think the Fimco had a superior boom on it but either one I would end up modifying. The breaker was that the PK was $379 and the fimco was $489 and I was planning to take the torch to either one. I bought Delevan 8 roller pump (versus 6 for pressure) and mounted it under the sprayer with a light weight pto shaft. I dont know if this helps but it is an option. Not to mention the PK was already JD green and yellow

A Hypro 6500 is a good all purpose pump. The 6500XL is a stainless steel like alloy that is much more resistant to corrosion. See hypropumps.com for details onpumps.

A good pump setup allows you to remove and flush the pump. My setup has a male 3/4 banjo fitting on the discharge hose and 3/4 banjo 90 female for the inlet. After use, flush with soap and water, add antifreeze, and connect the hoses, keeping the antifreeze in the pump, not in the sprayer tank.

For filling the tank I use 1/2 copper in a J hook with a ball valve and also a 3/4 male Banjo. The Banjo is for flushing the pump. Remove the pump from the tractor, connect the Copper j tubing to the female listed above and let the water run the pump for a while.

The silver pump is the stainless steel "silvercast" model i got new off ebay. Still looks like new inside.
