I decided to give up on the goat idea for clearing a section my property and started looking into brush hog mowers.

I don't want to spend big bucks on something since after I get this area cleaned up I won't have much additional use for it. I looked all over the internet and the used equipment that I saw looked like it would be a waste of money. I know these mowers will take a fair amount of abuse but I'd like to be the one abusing it versus buying something that is already beat up.

There is a dealer within 45 minutes of me that has a few used bush hogs. The one that looks the most promising is a Rhino. Since the search features are down I can't see what the consensus is on this brand of rotary cutter. I looked at the Rhino website and its close in weight to the better known Woods and Land Pride. I know weight isn't everything but at least it must be made from comparable materials. Here it is Rhino

Is the Rhino brand relaible? If I can get this for $450 would it be a good deal?

The Rhino brand is a good mower, if you can get a decent one for that price I am sure you can sell it when done and get your money out of it.

When looking at used ones, check in the gearbox for oil and make sure the bottom shaft seal hasn't gone bad. If it has, the gears and bearings might be shot.

That mower looks better than the one I bought, haha. I put a coat of paint on mine after I bought it so it's a bit better now, but that rhino still looks good to me.

I would like to think that if I bought that Rhino, I would add some cross bracing, like flatbar welded side to side on the top of the deck. Something to keep the cracks in check, and keep me from destoying it when I back into a tree, hitting it on a corner.
For normal use, a Rhino seems to be a sturdy mower, but who ever said clearing rough land was "normal" for a bushog? I know it is sure rough on mine!!
