My buddy has a 60" belly mower for a JD he wants to sell. It is in great shape, barely used, but nobody wants to give him anything for it. We all know about how much a new one would cost. Big Bucks. He wanted to make a trade with the local dealer for a rototiller, the dealer offered him $200. My buddy thought that was about as good as a kick in the knee.
Hey, maybe he's expecting way too much.........What do you guys think?
What would be a fair price?

What is it off of??? 455, 445, 425?? 4000 series? 3000 series? It should be worth in the $1000-1200 range, BUT, you have to have a market for it. IMO, he should keep the mower and set it off to the side and keep it from rusting. When/if he goes to trade the tractor in on a new/different one, at that time he should get good money for the tractor having a low hour deck.

It originally was for a 55 series (655,755, etc.). I'm sure it will fit many different models.

That's a pretty old mower. JD hasn't imported the 55 series tractor in almost a decade.
This one may not fit the newer Deeres. At the minimum, new brackets would have to be purchased (if still available) or fabricated.

And, it's an unfortunate fact that used implements don't hold their value very well....of course, that's good news for the buyers.

I'd stick it in the TBN classifieds. There's a number of 755 and 855 owners that may be interested. But that mower is still almost a decade old, so don't expect big bucks.

I bought a used 54" JD deck from a guy in VA for a total of $725 (shipped via air). It needed a new drive shaft and has worked fine ever since - 5 years now.

For a good idea on how much any used equipment is going for, you might look at:

www.tractorhouse.com

They have a huge listing of new/used equipment and you can get an idea on what you are selling or looking for is going for.
