I have the Woods BB720. I have only used it once for It is obviously well-made. It is called med-duty by Woods, but at 1,140 lbs., that would be heavy-duty my some manufacturers standards. You should stick reasonably close to Kubota's weight recommendations in the manual. My tractor is listed for close to 1100 lbs. I don't know what Kubota recommends for the L3000DT.
I have the Woods brochure handy - here's the weights on the light duty and med duty 60" models:
Standard Duty 60" 554 lbs.
Medium Duty 60" 1039 lbs.
Now that I see those numbers, I don't think your tractor would handle the 1039 lbs. and the listed PTO requirements for the med duty is 35 hp. The standard duty is listed min PTO 25 hp, so that should be about right. JMHO!
Terry

I dug out the book on by Tractor, and it does recomend no more then 770 for it.

Darn I should have gotten a bigger tractor!

I will have to stick to the light duty for now.

Thanks

Bruce

Hi sweetclover,

If you still want that 2" capacity but a lighter weight, the JD MX5 weighs in right around your maximum capacity, and asks for 25 PTO hp...

It is a great cutter, right there with Woods & Bush Hog for blade tip speed, just a bit lighter metal & gearbox than the BB600.

Mine has shredded anything I can knock over, from 7 or 8 1" to 2" alders in a patch to occasional 3-4 inch yellow birch (by themselves)... stumps, rocks, wagon axles... it's bulletproof so far.

Can a Kubota man tow a JD cutter without fear of being lynched?

Sure! I will pull any attachment that does the job. Sorry to break the secret, but not all "branded" attachments are made by the company with the name of the side....shhhh....

Uhh, was that the soft rustle of rope sliding over a tree branch?

What model tractor do you use with you BB840? I'm considering that unit behind my Kubota L5030HSTC, and was wondering how well she'd spin the mower in medium-high grass/weed fields. I'd like to take a pretty wide bite, but not if the tractor will constantly be bogging down.

Regards,
Jay

Jay,

I have the BB720 behind my L5030HSTC. It is a great match for the tractor. I would not want any more size or weight back there. I'm very careful and I have not had problems, but I can tell that 1,140 lbs is plenty for the tractor. I'm sure it would run a 7ft model, but 1400 is pretty heavy (much higher than Kubota's rating for a cutter). I looked at 7ft models, but prefer 6ft. I have too many "tight" areas to work in and a 7ft would really keep me busy watching out for myself to keep from hitting something (width & length of cutter can both cause problems). Even the six ft model is pretty long.
You are also looking at a few hundred dollars more for just one ft extra cutting width.
FWIW,
Terry

An alternative to Woods and Bush Hog -- Go <http://www.modernusa.com> and look at the Modern products. I've had a 5' Super Sunshine model for a few days and like it so far -- blade tip speed higher than competitors -- in my heavy mixed weeds/grass/brush 10-acre back pasture. It hasn't bogged-down my 31-HP Kubota so far, when treated conservatively.

I have a Land Pride 60" cutter which I've run pretty darn hard. It's dented up a bit (rocks and stumps), but cuts (pulverizes?) like a champ...therefore, I can recommend Land Pride cutters.

A 60" cutter (standard duty...which is probably all you need) costs about $1100.00.

what did that cost you?

Well I,m kinda partial to the bush hog brand myself , have a medium duty that I,ve used for 14yrs or so mowing 50 , or 60 acres per year , no problems at all , and it has taken some abuse from many things , mostly big branches , or logs seen and some unseen , I think I have on the third set of blades , counting the original ones , a 285 cutter would last a very long time cutting 5 acres if stored inside . I,m sure woods brand would be fine as well .

Welcome to TBN :D. Just to confuse matters I will offer another brand for consideraton- I have used a 40" Tebben Economy Model rotary cutter with good results in the past [It was more "user friendly" (except for changing blades) than my old Woods M-40] and purchased a 60" Tebben Medium Duty Cutter when I upgraded to a NH TC29DA. This is a popular rotary cutter in my area, but I do not know the availability of this RC in your area. The major specifications: PTO HP= 20 -40, Gearbox HP= 40, Blade Tip Speed= 14,000 RPM, Drivetrain= Cat 3, Deck Thickness= 11Ga, Side Skirt= 7Ga, Weight= 560#'s. Good luck on your research! All of us at TBN are more than happy to share our collective experiences as well as help you spend your money :D Jay

The 60" Modern Super Sunshine cutter was $1350 -- not what you'd call cheap and I don't think I got a particularly good deal from my Kubota dealer who ordered it for me. It has the look and feel of quality though.
