i am trying to mount the JD toothbar on my HD 61" bucket. i am having trouble getting the toothbar all the way on the bucket, there is about a half inch of daylight. does it need to ALL the way against the bucket before i drill the mount holes?any tips on mounting these things?

I would think all toothbars slide over the cutting edge. It may be a tad tight driving it on but I would have to say it has to slide over the bucket edge like all others...

Grind a little off the brackets with a grinder and it will go on with no problem. Don't have to worry about losing strength in it because all the force is on the cutting edge once it's locked on the bucket.

A toothbar sometimes needs to be convinced that it needs to get into position. Just hammer it into place and get it as even as you can across the cutting edge of the bucket.

After it is in place, drill the mounting holes. You will have better luck drilling the holes while the toothbar is in place since you can use it as a drill guide.

There are many threads about mounting the toothbar if you do a search. Here's one I started:

It has several photos illustrating the proceedure I used. Most important is to clamp it tightly against the cutting edge of your bucket, then drill the holes. This will reduce wear and tear on the mounting holes and save your bucket. It also reduces flex in the toothbar itself and reduces the amount of crud that gets stuck between it and the cutting edge.

Let me know what you think...hope that helps.

When I mounted the toothbar on my bucket. It would not set all the way unto cutting edge until I ground some of the weld holding the cutting edge on. There were 3 or 4 spots that had a build up of weld that would not allow toothbar to slide all the way on.

1st time mounting required a sledge hammer to seat the beast in our application. Now that it's been on and off more than a few times it goes much easier, or my arms are getting stronger swinging the sledge. :D
