Still have to go there and take all the stuff..and tear the gun apart and get it ready to go ( new gun)...so maybe tusday or wednesday..?

Painting results as follows.
Temp was 85 today...humidity right at 40%. Paint was cut as close to 50/50 as I could measure it..and it STILL looked THICK to me..??? I runs out of the can like maple syrup!! Thinner was naptha.

It took 4-5 minutes of diddeling with the new spray gun to get it adjusted "right"... Paint went on fine...covered well. ( no runs no drips no errors..lol) Paint would dry tacky in 15-20 minutes ( you could leave a thumb print in ot but no paint came off on your hand) and withing 5 minutes or so after that point the second coat was applied.

Got the lowers items painted black and my farmer buddy saids lets keep going...so I cleaned the gun all out and we mixed the Kubota orange paint and did the same to the framework of the discs.

Then the BIG cleanup came...but I was inside where it was cool then...:)

Thanks for all the help guys..I apreciate it.

Now I need some more old impliments do get more painting practice...lol

I followed the directions on the paint can regarding thinner amount and what type. Followed hardener directions regarding how much of it to use. Used a touchup type sprayer that I bought at TSC. Paint job on my attachment, including the discs is lasting pretty good.

I painted nude. Think I had one of those paper masks over my nose and mouth. Painted outside with no wind blowing.

40 percent humidity? I can feel my skin drying out allready. Ive been in florida too long, anything less than 90 percent and we dry up.

I paint with the TSC BPS paint all the time. 50/50 thinning? will get you horrible results that will run if you look at it too hard.

i thin at just about what the can says.. 2-2.5 oz naptha. And ues.. naptha for spray gun.. mineral spirits for brush/roller.

Hardner.. 80z per gallon.. 2oz per qt.. etc.

Pour the thinner into your measure cup.. Mix the hardner into the thinner, then add to the paint in the gun's cup.. let it activate.. stir it frequently.

Make a few test paint to get yor gun's air setup and pressure set. Yes.. you may have to adjust your thinner a bit based on your specific gun. I use a chinese 'binks' knockoff that cost me 9$.. a cheapy gun for sure.. however it has served me well.

Don't pain indoors.. or DO wear a full air respirator.. or pain outside in a slight breeze, at above 40' f and below 90'f, and a very slight breeze or less.. though some air movement is better than stagnant air... and do wear the best organic vapor cartridge you have. The valspar hardner has much less iso content than most hardners.. but do protect yourself... the MSDS sheet on the valspar hardner is a tad vauge.. so play it safe.

Wet the ground you are going to paint on to cut the dust.. then you can erect visqueen plastic sheeting on 2x2 frames to make a free standing paint booth with some ventilation.. etc.

Here's an example of what you can do with a 9$ apint gun, cheap air compressor, and 25$/gallon paint.

Ok..calling all spray painters!...lol

Im geting ready to lay the paint on the set of discs Ive been cleaning up. Everything is de-rusted and well primed and I bought my paint..."impliment enamel" from TSC..and also their recommened thinner which is Naptha! ( The other is mineral spirits but the Naptha makes it dry quicker) Also I've their "hardener" to make the paint more durable.??? I have a close friend what will help me thru this whole "wreck"...lol

HE says we need to cut the paint 50/50 with thinner...keeps the gun from clogging...makes the paint dry quicker..etc..etc. BUT..the label on the paint says to NOT thin more thin 8 ounces PER GALLON!!!! Duhhh! I certainly dont need nor want to be stopping all the time to clean the gun nozzle...but then I dont want to waste my time sprayng something that has the covering power of "India ink" either?

Any of you old time spray painters got any suggestions??

I know what you mean about "runs". I just did that the guy that was "helping me" said to do...but i had to admit it DID look like it could run like a river if you looked at it cross eyed just once. It DIDNT...but when applied it sure looked it!!!

Ive got an "expensive" HF gun..set me back $19.95....:)...the very next week they had it on special for $12.95 and I bought my buddy one to have. He thinks they are the greatest thing since sliced bread...said the adjustments..etc..were really good..? ( what do I know??)

I'll be doing more painting in late sept or early oct...especially touch up stuff on the FEL....after all.gotta keep it nice looking dont I?...*S* Since I'll be doing those jobs HERE at my home..I'll follow YOUR mixing and thining instructions and see how that works..??
I used 50 PSI..that was the middle ground of the pressure range for this job.

BTW...Great looking paint job guy!..Geeze... REALLY great looking.

LOL..I was sitting in a camp ground in New Mexico once..listening to the radio and the weather man came on...said it was FOUR PERCENT humidity...and I kinda gawked...the wife asked me what was the matter...I said DRY LUMBER has 6% humidity!!!

Your humidity wasn't like we see here in fl. On some days.. you can't get the paint or primer to stick due to humidity.

Your temp was int he upper range.. that actually helped you, due to the amount of thinner you used. That naptha evaps QUICK in 85' temps.. probably what saved you from runs.

I'll bet you have the same gun I have. i bought it 6 ys ago.. it was a 14.99 gun then... and I walked in on a 9.99$ sale. I guess I really need to get another one and retire this one.. but i clean it like I eat off it.. and it has never given me a problem. Though.. it would be nice to have a dedicated touch up gun with 10oz cup for the small jobs.. my standard gun for the paint.. and also a gun for the primer.. only.. so i can keep my air adjusted differently.. and to cut down on time between parts.. especially If I am painting a chassie.. and have some tin hanging to paint.. I can use 2 of the 3 guns and be mixing paint at the same time without worrying about doing a 10 minute cleaning ont he gun just to switch over colors..

Play around with the thinner. I'm in a different area that you are. find whatever works for you, and go with it... I won't be surprised that slight differences int he gun, different paints.. different percentage of hardner, and different environment might drastically effect a volatile thinner like naptha.

A touch up gun is "basically" what this one is. Suppose to hold 10 oz of paint...and I bought an extra 20 oz cup for it. Its one of HF's "HVLP" guns..
And..IMHO..your dead right about the Naptha..etc..etc.

I think for this fall Im going to buy "Kubota" brand paint for the FEL bucket. This stuff from TSC is "close"...but as the wife even commented..."Dont use it to paint the hood" of the tractor. Its "off" just enough to see when "side by side".

As I said before..next go-round Im going to use less thinner..AND...if I cant get it to spray correctly..I can always dump it out of the cut and add MORE thinner...but if Im too thin to start with..Im sorta screwed!
