I'm looking for a corn planter, most likely a 1 row planter because I'll be pulling it with a JD 2210 (23 HP Diesel).

Where is a good place to look at buying a planter, and are there any cheap brands to steer clear of?

Also kinda looking at buying some food plot ground working implements.

EBAY.

IMHO, best planter for a novice is the John Deere #71 flex planter row unit. You can buy them NEW, but not from Deere. Yetter Manufacturing built them for Mother Deere (on contract) When Deere dropped them from their line back a few years, Yetter bought the design rights and continues to build and sell them. Simple, accurate, light enough for a small tractor, and easy to find seed plates for. (used plates abound, NEW ones available through Lincoln Ag Products) Even the manuals are easy to come by on EBAY

I agree with farmwithjunk about the JD 71 planter. I bought a two row and it is quite easy to use. You should be able to find a used one on ebay for $300-500.

Search Covington. They also have the Cole planters from long ago. I purchased a new Covington single row planter, cultivator, and side dresser this spring. Spent about 1K on all three pieces. Grew some nice corn. What ever you look at, see if you can get a side dresser to go with it. Nitrogen makes the corn.
