Been considering installing a canopy on my B7510 Kubota. Do they block out enough sun to justify the cost? Also do you feel they might be a hazard in case of a roleover? Anyone try making one? Thanks

I don't know what the weather is like in your part of northern California, but in central Texas, I consider a canopy almost a necessity. My brother make a canopy for me for my B7100. He used 1" square tubular steel, welded a frame, then stretched canvas over it, that was held in place with bungee cords. But when I bought the B2710, I had the Kubota dealer install a Wells Ag Company canopy that was much better, of course.

thanks Bird. It rose to 112 in July, (Not that I plan being out there in that kind of heat) Right now its in the low 90's. Still hot in the sun but confortable in the shade. I hoping a canopy would be a help.

Tony, you know in addition to protection from the sun (which is why I originally got canopies), a good one can be used for other things, too. You can see mine here and here. I had a forward facing trapezoidal light, a rear facing floodlight, a rear view mirror, a side to side and a front to rear R&B tiltmeters, and the toggle switch for the work lights mounted to the frame of my canopy.

And you're not supposed to notice that little wavy spot on the rear edge of the canopy in the second picture where I backed under a big strong tree limb.

I think my canopy was a terrific purchase

1. Shade
2. Rain protection
3. Light platform
4. Saved me a lot of work wiring my lights and mounting my switches

I use my tractor for snow removal and having the lights mounted on the canopy gives a much better angle for lighting FEL work area than ROPS mounted lights.

Yes, they are worth it.

So much cooler than being in the blazing sun.

As far as a rollover I assume you mean some part of the canopy jabbing into your body, as the ROPS is still there and intact for protection. I myself am not worried about a rollover, due to the lay of the land. a roll onto the side may happen, but that is totally different than a roll over.

By not being in the blazing sun getting heat exhaustion and heat stroke you can probably make better decisions and not worry about a roll over.

Next best thing to an air conditioned cab. Period.

In 1979, I bought the John Deere I still own. It was on a dealers lot. It has a ROPS and canopy. I couldn't wait to get it home and take that silly looking roof of of it. First day it was home, I was baling hay on a 95 degree sunny day.

I never took it off.

I've been on the hunt for a ROPS and canopy for my other 2 tractors.

I'm another that believes in a can-o-peas. A canopy keeps the sun off my shaved noggin, plus it makes a nice platform for extra lighting.

Agree with others - Canopy is very helpful keeping sun and rain off. Good for mounting lights - especially if you have a FEL. Mounted snow plow lights to my canopy (thanks, PineRidge for the help) as the stock headlights are pretty worthless at night with the FEL in the way. Also, good for protecting from "lite" falling debris like tree branches.

The canopy can get in the way, or rather, cause some clearance issues when working close and around trees and large bushes. But, something have to live with as I would not consider taking mine off.

How come when you take a pic of your tractor, your lawn always looks so darn good :D
