Don't know if this is the right place for this or not, if it's not someone will move it. I have a 5' Bush Hog Brand finish mower that I need to change the gear lube in the gear box. I was wondering what the thoughts were on using 140 synthetic.

I'll bet you couldn't go wrong with plain dino 90w, 85/140

or

75w90 syn.. or that 140syn you spoke of..(I've not seen the 140 syn.. but don't doubt that it will work.. )

If you think conventional oil has been used in that gear box for at least 300 hours or so, a 140 synthetic should work just fine. Less than 300 hours, the rotating/meshing parts might still have some breaking in to finish.
