Where do I begin.....
AKA The TSC Saga continues!

On the same day as I posted in another thread of the lousy service at our closest TSC, I had to go there today.

And much to my dismay..................! I walked in the front door and IMMEDIATELY knew SOMETHING was different. I saw people in TSC vest's all over the store. Before I could get my jaw off the floor, one was asking me if I needed any help.

"I sure do son". I replied, "How about explaining to me what's going on"

"Sir"?,

"How come there's a staff in here? That's not at all normal."

"Well", said the young man, "I THINK I know what you're talking about. 7 months ago, our manager got fired, the store was de-rated by corperate, and we got a completely new management and crew. We're now under direct corperate supervision until further notice. Is there anything I can help you with?"

"No son, you've already done enough. Thank you and thank your boss when you see him", I said.

I left that building with a smile on my face and a cart full of stuff. The smile part was a first.

Here's to hoping it won't be the last.

Before things revert, I'm headed back tomorrow. Don't know what I'll buy, I just want to visit!

It's amazing how the staff mirror the management. If the helpers have a sour look on their face, the boss usually does too. If the staff runs around like their hair is on fire, you can bet the guy walking the fastest is the manager. However you want the staff to relate to customers, that's the type of manager you must pick. If the manager is chosen because he has no patience with his workers, the workers will have little patience with the customers.

Our local TSC store isn't too good. It is hit or miss in terms of finding someone knowledgeable to help you. Inventory is a mess. Hard to find anything. If you need a toy tractor or a cowboy hat you're in luck, if you need a replacement scarifier or a specific Zerk fitting they look at you like you're from Mars. Maybe this place will get a corporate make-over too.

So what am I hearing? "Big corporate takeover...good, local control...bad?" Seems like a reversal of a trend to me. :)

Hi Farm,
Well our TSC is pretty well layed out and I can find most anything on my own for the most part.

Home Depot needs to take notice here, if Im not sure where something is located I cant seem to find anyone else that does either

To be fair about it, HD has a much greater inventory than TSC, but they need to hire a few more competent personnel IMHO, and give them a little more training before letting them loose on the store floor

Well, first thing is that I don't think there is any takeover involved, TSC is probably corporate owned already. I could be wrong, but I don't think it is a local franchise. Second, if the local folks are to slack to get the job done, someone intrested in making money (by treating customers right) is going to step in. So maybe the moral of the story is that local responsibility keeps the suits away. But that depends on the local responsibility.

same is true for the local HD i shop at.

supposdily largest sales volume of the stl area at $100 mill a year in sales.

to bad i spent 30 min re orginzieing the shelf of electronic thermostats so i could find one i was happy with.

turns out i was left with a pile of about 15 empty boxes on the floor, and about 7 to choose from and when i started the shelf was "full of mess". There were stickers on the self for about 20 diffent kinds though.

I posted in the other TSC thread, that I've had vastly different experiences with my local TSC depending on whether I was there on a weekday or a weekend, with weekends usually full of frustration from lack of qualified help, or even help at all! I told the store manager this and he said he has a real tough time getting competent weekend help or even enough help to properly staff the store.......he said he'll work on it, but my advice is to shop on a mid weekday........at least for the Olathe store.........

The guy who was apparently "in charge" on an interim basis at our neighborhood TSC store looked a bit like my sophmore biology teacher. Talk about a menacing look.....Uhhhhg! I have a feeling his sole purpose within the corporate structure was to put the fear of GOD in store employees. He had ME looking to be a better customer just to prevent hostilities directed my way.

EVERY business needs a "hitman" like that. Someone who doesn't care how popular he is or how friendly he is percieved. "Just do your job RIGHT or get the h@II out"!

TSC is sitting on a goldmine. Even with their "for better or for worse" products, they're still the only game in town for the most part. What they need is some serious competition.

Don't EVEN get me started on Home Depot! There's one less than 15 minutes round trip from the house. Lowes is 50 minutes one way. I'm shopping at Lowes. (And I even like Tony Stewart and don't care much for Jimmy Johnson, yet I still buy from Lowes) That says it all.

BOO on the BIG Orange Box.
