I've been wondering how you turn the spreader seed/fert discharge on and off on these. Does it automatically open up when the PTO is engaged and close when stopped?
On push type spreaders, there are 2 levers. One adjusts the width of the opening. Another opens and shuts the opening.
Been thinking about getting one to spread some fescue. Darn Nepalese Browntop is taking over. Need to Roundup all of it and plant with something else: fescue.

On my Baltic, there are three levers. One large one opens and closes the ~1¾" opening at the bottom of the hopper. Then there are two smaller levers. One of these regulates the size of the opening the big lever controls, basically the feed rate. The second one moves the actual location of the hole, so the material drops through and hits the spinner at a different point. I haven't used this too much, mostly for pelleted lime, but I think the location lever makes the spreader adaptable to different weights or sizes of material.
Anyone else weigh in on this?
