Does this have a name and what is it typically used for?

It came with my RFM that I purchased used. It was attached to the floating upper link of the RFM. My guess is that he was using it in place of the top link. Is this the case?

Yep, that's what it is. Actually looks like something he has purchased. I've seen many homemade ones but not that slick. it would be very handy if you are mowing on very uneven ground. I would hang onto it. Try it out, you might like it. Helps your RFM to stay on all four wheels.

With the 3 spinner, 2.75 meter pasture topper we sometimes borrow from our neighbor, use just a chain, it's not as fancy as this. To mount the chain, you'll need thin hitch pins that bend easily because of the with of the top link bracket. so this thing you show, is much better.
That pasture topper just has some slide boots on each side, so its even more important to allow it to slide freely, than with a wheeled mower.

Thanks for the replies. I saw one in a tractor store once so I know they sell them as pictured. I will have to ask them if it has a name the next time I'm in there.

My 305 has a rigid mount on it that is welded in place and I've been trying to figure out a way to make the hitch pivot with out spending hours grinding out the welds. My Squealer has a chain from the top link bracket to the rear of the mower deck and I was stuck on this design. Now that I've seen this chain top link idea I'm going right out to build one modified to my requirements and desires.

Thanks for posting the photos.

Ford960, make sure you post some pictures of your setup after you are done.

A picture is worth a 1000 words!

That's pretty slick looking. And you could slide a piece of pipe over it as a stiffener if ya needed to.

I just saw it at a tractor store the other day as pictured. It was labeled TIS TL800. I assumed this was a Tisco part number but I could not find it on their online catalog. I assume the TL stands for Top Link.
