Wow, J! A GT owner wants to find a spray rig for his acreage and you have to try to make him feel inadequate! Got tired of comparing your BX to the real tractors? Shame on you! Pick on somebody with at least a 4100!

Yeah, bla, bla, bla also. He quoted the figures, unfortunately they are slightly incorrect when he was baseing what size tank he could carry from his comparison to the BX--it was his comparison and not a useful one due to there being to much difference between the two units--some of the difference I explained--like it or not. Some of y'all can kiss my rear. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Rather than attack me why not offer useful suggestions for the gentleman.
The sprayers at Tractor Supply also have a nice boom arrangement that folds up, they have about a 10 foot spread I think unfolded. Another advantage of the trailer mounted one is that with it's own wheels it can be rolled around easily during storage compared to the three point type. My neighbor bought for his JD455 a very nice JD dump trailer. They had them on sale some time back--maybe you can still get one. It dumps but also it is very nicely made and can carry a large water tank from Tractor Supply--he uses it to water his baby trees--I have found that hauling water in the FEL is not very efficient!
I also have another friend who built a house a few miles away by road but by moutain bike or tractor or shall I say as a 3crow flies right next door. He has a Wheelhorse--just moved in a few weeks ago. He went down to Harbor Freight and bought a small trailer kit. He is building a removable spray unit and a removable water tank to fit on top of it. He is very smart with things like that and the red color matches his Wheelhorse very nicely.
I also saw a nice electric seed spreader at TSC and I know that Heard Comapny also builds electric seed spreaders that I hear work well. I think they will spread fertilizer but may be better suited to spreading insecticides and stuff like that. Also Earth and Turf makes a pull behind drop spreader--it is even green!!!!! it is available in 60 inch and 72 inch widths and is a very heavy duty, built for a lifetime unit--12 guage steel. It is called the SuprSeed.

I think the pot is calling the kettle black here--I see you hammered him on the head and essentially told him he needs a 4100, I just tried to straighten out a faulty stats. Not everyone wants or needs a bigger tractor.
Let the guy have his fun, if he wants a 55 gallon tank on the 400 then maybe he will design a wheelie bar for it, just don't install it thinking a BX might be able to handle it that a 400 can too--actually neither can in a practical sense but with a weight kit on the front either should be able to handle 25 to 30 gallons. I think the electric maybe a better idea than having to rig a roller pump on the PTO anyway. J

I didn't think I "hammered" anyone,{but if I did, they'd be dead!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif} but I don't think a 50 gallon filled tank would be feasible either... and maybe you got me confused with something else, but I didn't mention anything about a 4100, maybe he did...

...and J, you know how I bust everyone's chops... you too... and from this board, you know me enough not to insult or hurt anyone's feelings intentionally...

Oh, I do that regular--pick on 4100's all the time, just ask Nuru!
I was Atwoods this afternoon and I saw a catalog featuring a spray rig there also. I did not get to finish looking because I ran into an aguaintence and forgot what I was doing.
It looked pretty nice, I will have to go back and see if I can get the brand name. I think it is Gemplers who also sells such things I think and they also have a catalog to order from and Great Norhtern is another source for such things.
Oh, Bigpete, another idea for building a 3-point sprayer, Tractor Supply, no I do not own stock, has a Carry All, model no. CA-T and SKU no. 21-28210. You could easily build a spray rig on this and even rig it to come off so the Carry All can be used for other tasks.
John Miller III, you should also know I am not angry at you, not at all, your one of my favorites, a dubious honor to be sure.

Good choice on the 25-30 gal range. For 4 acres that is about the right solution amount. It's easier to mix up a bit more than it is to dump out any extra!

By the way, don't pay any attention to the Kubota lovers that get carried away. They seem to have forgotten that this is the Christmas season and a time for good will to all (regardless of tractor affiliation) /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

As I mentioned a few posts earlier I found my solution: a twenty-five gallon Cat 0 with roller pump--all stock. My local Southern States buddy is bringing the Cat 1 55 gallon model by the homestead tomorrow afternoon to ensure clearance (same frame, different pins). The JD 4XX 540 PTO is identical in specs, rotation and spline configuration to your BX and all of your compact tractors, so there is no need to "rig" a roller pump as somebody suggested earlier. Deere abandoned the proprietary 2000 rpm, reverse rotation concept on its GTs several years ago. I should be good to go for about $500--warranteed to boot.

Tres, your tractor does weigh what you said--1300 lbs with ROPS--my miss. If the 4XX had a ROPS, it would be over 900 lbs dry. Your neghbor should stop by his nearby JD dealer and pick up a second set of rear wheels with bar tires if he's spinning around and unable to pull in damp conditions. Never had those problems--not yet, at least. BTW, your clear advantage is 4WD, as you sounded uncertain why your BX could outpull his JD. And the last point: unless your neghbor has a 150 lb MMM on that 455, you've got the wrong spec sheet. My 60" MMM weighs in at 302 lbs. (I'm sure you will now have the urge to tell me how much your MMM weighs) This brings the mower-rigged weight on my 445 to 1118 lbs plus battery, fluids and my ever-expanding "human ballast" backside.

Tres, you don't need to tell me your BX is "better" for me than my JD. I'm certainly not saying my 445 is better for you than your BX. It's still a matter of a 4 1/2 inches, a few hundered pounds and 4WD, which is not a significant step up--to me--. Repeat---to me. These types of debates are akin to such statements as:

"My wife is prettier than yours..."
"My house is nicer than yours..."
"My car is more comfortable than yours..."
and the classic
"My Dad is smarter than yours..."

Rigging a roller pump is not a big deal--they use a coupler which goes on to the spline and a chain that acts as an anti rotation device. This is the simplest method other than going electric.
It works quite well as long as you make sure it cannot wrap up!
Nope, already gave ya' the weights after you made the initial comparison to my recollection and the harrow is generally pulled in two wheel drive mode reserving 4WD for FEL and box blade stuff etc.
My neighbors dad is a JD dealership part owner. I think he may be getting a 4100 closeout for Christmas--it may have a few hours on it but I doubt many. I think it is being given to him and yes--I am green with envy--I think his wife is going to keep the 455 cuz she likes it for her gardening and for it's mowing capabilites!
Some people get all the toys. Good luck with your rig, aren't tractors fun? I wish I had the pic developed were we teamed up the BX and the 455 to pull a cottonwood tree, it was kinda funny because we both just sat there spinning and then my other neighbor who has of all things an ancient Craftman came over and we harnessed him also and guess what--it actually started moving. Now, this is the thing, I could have easily pulled it with the truck but what fun would that have been and all that man to tractor bonding etc. J

God forbid your fragile self esteem suffer any further damage. Actually our tenderfoot member is correct about his weights. I don't care one way or the other, but you are such a pompous grunt that I can't help but research your claptrap oneupsmanship. This link isn't for you because you will always be right in your mind. The 60" deck for the 400 series is actually heavier than the BX2200 60" deck. I had a BX for a year and sold it because I didn't need a loader and my land is dry and flat. It could pull, push, and dig better, but it was sluggish for normal duty and mowing compared to the 455 I just bought. The power is the same and I think i actually sit a little higher in the 455. Unless you have wet work or loader work, there is nothing better about the BX, except price. I found that most Cat 1 attachments were a little too heavy or too wide at the pins for the 3PH on my BX. Everybody loves what they have, though.
