I have pondered a PTO driven pressure washer before. Like TomH I stumbled upon the Easy-Kleen unit out of Canada. I sent them a price request but I have not received a response yet. I will need to give them a call when I get a moment. This would be the quick and easy way to go if the price is right.

Depending upon the price of this unit, it may also be worth thinking about combining a PTO Generator with an Electric Pressure Washer. This may cost a bit more but it would give you the added benefit of a generator. Here are the basic parts required. You could also purchase an electric pressure washer assembly as opposed to the separate parts. You could add a carry-all to mount everything to or build something yourself.

I already have a diesel generator and I don't need a high psi pressure washer so I have been looking at the following Hypro units.

Hypro, out of Minnesota, makes pumps for 540 RPM PTO applications. They cost around $500 and it could easily be mounted to a drawbar with a top link brace. It only generates about 400 psi but that's fine for my needs. If you had a mid-PTO, you could also adapt a higher RPM (higher pressure) model to the front of your tractor.

Model 5210c-h Pump

Hypro also makes hydraulically-driven pressure washers that cost around $1000. They sell a kit with a 50' hose, gun assembly and thermal relief valve for an extra $200. The hydraulic units require 5 to 11 GPM in terms of the tractor hydraulics (1300 to 2000 psi). These units can generate 1000 to 2000 psi in terms of water pressure. The hydraulic units can be found on page 11 of the following brochure.

Model 1804C Kit

They offer a variety of PTO adapters for their pumps and they can be found on the 10th page of this brochure.

At the end of the day, I will probably just purchase an inexpensive electric model. However, be sure to let us know if you purchase a PTO driven unit.

I am planning to build a pressure washer. I have a new Giant Pressure Pump I picked up for $50 (Ebay). If I remember correctly it will put out from 2500 to 3000 PSI, and 3.5 to 4 GPM depending on the RPM's. I think the GPM is more important than the PSI. I was specifically interested in this pump because the rpm range is from 1026 to 1450, many of the pumps you see out there are for 3600 rpm. I also picked up a right angle gear box that is 1 x 1.92 ratio. PTO at 540 x 1.92 = 1036 RPMs. I am not sure the gearbox is beefy enough for the PTO so for now this is a winter project while I try to find a more appropriate gear box. Here is a link to a gearbox at the Surplus center that looks like it would work perfect.

PTO Shaft off my Tiller should be fine for driveline, I already have Gun and hose off an old unit. I will also need to find the unloader valve.

I have also considered fashioning something out of hydraulics, but have no experience there other than my reading here.

It has been over a year, but I was quoted something like $2400 for the Easy Kleen unit. Definitely out of my price range. My motivation for this project is simply not having to maintain another engine.

I suppose the other option would be to pull off a mid PTO if you dont have a MMM. I thought most mid PTO were in the 1000rpm range.

I did a get a price from Easy-Kleen and it's $2495 Canadian, which is around $2250 US. You also need to add cross-border S&H, which can be costly.

For this money, it would be much more economical to fabricate a unit using a PTO generator, Electric Power Washer (cold or hot) and Carry-All. For the same money, or less, you would be getting the added benefit of a generator and hot water. With a generator, you could also add other accessories, such as an air compressor, etc.

Does anyone out there have something fabricated along these lines?

Bruce,
This sounds like a great project. I wish a small company would pick up on this idea and sell it for $400-$500 dollars, I would sure buy one!

Its sure crazy to think that you can get a el-cheapo PW at the Depot or Lowes for $300 WITH a gas engine, and one company wants $2400 without a engine!

I second that!

I went to Sears tonight tonight to buy a Karcher Electric Pressure Washer and, of course, they were out of the model I wanted. I went to Lowes and they had a nearly identical model. At 1750 PSI & 1.5 GPM, I'm hoping it's enough for what I need. I plan to use it to clean my tractor, vehicles, vinyl siding, decking, etc. I just couldn't stand the idea of having another engine around to maintain. I'm going to give it a try; worst case, I will return it for a gas model.

KennyD,

I agree, It just doesn't make a lot of sense that someone hasn't picked up on building an inexpensive one commercially. The only thought I have, is that anything that runs off a PTO is pretty dangerous to operate. And maybe the world of law suits today, the economics associated with liabilty means they will only build a model the apporaches a proffesional grade ($2400) unit. I have watched your threads, you obviously have the ability to put one of these together and do a quality Job.
