hey guys. i might be in the wrong section of the forum, if so, forgive me. I might be acquiring 15 acres of hayfield in the next couple months. I have a John Deere 770. is it possible to use this for some sort of small scale, primitive hay production? I have no real knowledge of this subject.
thanks

Too small for a baler or haybine, but you could run a 5 foot sickle bar and rake. Look for an old hay loader (common in amish areas) and wagon, then draw the hay in loose. We did it this way in the old days when all we had was a John Deere M (about the same size as the 770). I remember it being more fun this way than the small rectangular bales that were popular for many years. Pitchforks of hay were easier to handle for a kid than the bales. Storage was a bit of a problem as the loose hay took up more room in the barn than the bales. Chore-time was a little easier as you could throw down just as much hay as you needed and didnt have to mess with the twine.
