Kubota L1-20 DT
Well after much reading on TBN I decided to buy my first NEW implement. Try and keep the $ down by buying old stuff but hard to get exactly what you want.

Ended up with a 4' rear blade for my little Kubota. Picked it up today.

Spent about 2 hrs with it this afternoon. I was surprised what I could do with it in that time.

Made a hell of a mess of some of the "speedbumps" in my driveway but did manage to cut some new drainage ditches.

I know as soon as I get rain I'll end up with a muddy mess, but if I play around now and get some granite over the top one day, I should be OK.

Will be fun to experiment with it. Had 360 degree rotation, offset and tile so will be very useful. Seeing as I don't have the $ for a loader, this will have to be my "Earthmover" for a while !

I'll keep you posted on the developments of my mud......

Cheers

Neil,

Sure is fun to get a new tool for the tractor. Sounds like you are starting on the road repair the right way by cutting in the ditches. If you don't get the water off the road, by crowning it, and get rid of the water, with ditches, the road will never work right. You may already know this, but if your blade will spin all the way around, using the blade reversed is nice for a finishing pass on that fresh dirt/stone.

Little more work and you will be ready for the winter..........or is that summer in Oz? Hey, does Santa wear shorts over there?/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Seat time..Just take your time and get the feel, and before you know it you'll drop the blade and off you go sipping on your coffee and won't look back.
Yep those rakes, box blade, rear blade sure beat a hoe and iron rake anyday./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Neil, you can do a lot with one of those blades and a dirtscoop. Before I got a tractor with a FEL, I had a 3pt dirtscoop on my old Ford. The scoop was reversible so you could back into a pile of dirt or gravel and you could fill it with almost 1/4 cubic meter of material. It took a lot of trips, but I used one to build a pad for my 24' x 24' portable building and it worked great. I don't know if you can get one there, but one would be high on my "must have" list.

I also like the 3ph scoop if you're without the fel. I have a lot of hours on one of those attached to a B7100 moving stuff all over! My dad has it now, doing the same thing.

Yes thanks guys for the info.

Yep Santa wears shorts and a hat here because it is normally 40degrees C during our Christmas week !!!

One thing I can;t work out with this blade, if I want to tilt it and try and crown my road, by reversing, am I going to end up with an ever increasing angle?

I mean as the blade cuts on an angle, the wheels then follow that angle, then the blade cuts more of an angle an so on???

Follow???

So to crown the road do I have to drive forwards ??

I can't work this out and watching normal graders I wonder the same thing??

I do the crown forwards, not a lot of tilt, just angle(rotate) the discharge towards the center.Taking a fairly light cut and a couple passes. When the worked material is a few inches higher in the center I roll it w/ cultipacker(look/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gifanother necessary attachment)up one side, down the other side then a pass down the middle. Viola! A compacted, crowned drive.
Hope you follow, kinda hard to explain but it works great.

Neil,

So to crown the road do I have to drive forwards

Thats the way I do it. In reverse the blade would continue to dig in to much for me. I have found that multiple light passes leave me with a better finish that trying to make one or two deep cuts. Also keep in mind that the crown only has to be a couple of inches higher for the water to run off.

Good luck, have fun and keep us up to date on your project.

Neil,

I have an L185 (2Wd and turf tires) and have been looking for a blade. Now that you have played with the blade for awhile do you think a 4' is the right size for our type of tractor? Would a 5' or 6' be to much?
