Hey All.

I was given a wood splitter that I assumed was the typical hydraulic drive when I first glanced at. I got it home and pulled some of the guards off and discovered that it’s a screw drive. I’ve never seen a screw drive of this size and can not find anything about them on the internet, thought maybe someone here might know a little about it. I’d like to know if it’s worth repairing and/or if it was heavy duty enough to convert over to hydraulic. The main beam is ¼ wall square stock. Any help would be appreciated.

Phil

3 year old question.... Have you ever found anything? Popular Mechanics featured this in 1981. I just bought an ag split very similar design. I would appreciate parts and info for this as well if someone comes across this

If you are talking about an electric driven log splitter, I have one. The screw drive housing is cracked, so it is about useless. I don't think it was over 5 ton. Similar to this.

Year later--- revisiting Gilson Power Bolt Screw type log splitter. The one I am still looking for info on is a pto tractor driven unit belt to pulley and reverse to pulley. Very Unique?! Ag Split brand stamped on it.
