Does anyone know where I can find an after market replacement PTO shaft cover for my John Deere LX5 rotary cutter ? John Deere factory parts are a tad on the high side.

Have you checked with PTOshafts.com or Agri-Supply.com?

When an incomplete profile doesn't even suggest where you live, it's hard to point to a specific storefront source. As such, any decent farm supply store carries PTO components, including shields. But they're generally of a generic length. Once purchased, you must cut to fit.

I updated my profile. I had forgotten I never finished filling it out.
I bought a generic shield from Tractor Supply. I cut it to fit, using the salesperson's suggestion of cutting equal lengths from both pieces. I still had vibration problems. What irks me is the original JD shield only failed at the upper tube. Not knowing that pretty much every section of the shield could be purchased independently, I threw the whole thing away. So instead of just spending $26, I need to spend $136 for a new JD shield. If you live long enough, you may actually learn something.

What does a safety shield have to do with a vibration problem? You can purchase a brand new PTO shaft with safety shield for around $126.

Pictures are always very helpful.
