PTO Shaft Issue with Shear Bolt

Get the orc for sure.. install it on the tractor end. If you have room on the mower side, and want a slip clutch.. get it. Make sure you have adequate pto shaft clearance when open and closed... I'm guessing you will have to cut it down.. just remember.. measure twice.. cut once.. and take equal amounts off each side, including the shields..

If you decide to go with 1 only.. get the orc.. and then stick to soft shear bolts..

Thanks Soundguy! I am somewhat confused by the terminology you used in one place...

" Make sure you have adequate pto shaft clearance when open and closed..."

It is the "open and closed" part I don't understand. What is this referring to?

Thanks again!

PTO driveline are comprised of shafts within shafts. To extend is to "open", to compress is to "close". In both cases, there will be some of the inner shaft protruding from the outer shaft.

The point at which the shafts are completely compressed is when the implement is lifted to a height that puts the tractor PTO spline and implement transmission shaft on a parallel plane. At this point, there should be at least one inch of the inner shaft protruding. Closed. When the implement is then lowered to it's working position, the inner shaft extends to it's working length. Open.
