Saw this for sale and didn't know what it was or if it was even Cat 1. I'm certain someone knows.

If I had to guess /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif it looks like its home made and for weeding the rows.
Sure wouldn't want that run over my foot./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Looks like a rotary hoe, I've only seen ones about 12 feet long and as an scale model made by Ertl, its used to culivate between crops.

I've seen small hand held units, "Weed Weasel" I think they're called. Used to cultivate between rows, they do a good job of pulling out weeds and such. It'll also kinda till the top inch or so. If it wasn't too much, I'd probably get it only cause it looks cool. But a small tiller will probably do a better job for you.

As Mike said, looks like a large, tractor powered version of a Garden Weasel.

Garden Weasel - Ha!!

I got weaseled out of around $20 a few years ago. The only time that they're effective is when the soil is very loose and very little weed material. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

The one drawback to the weasel, was that you needed to put all your weight into it. It's amazing how tired you can get by pushing down and trying to move that thing at the same time.

HalseyGreen hit the nail on the head. It is a rotary hoe, that just rolls along the ground, breaking up the hard layer on top, and ripping out weeds as it goes. Usually one pulls it pretty fast. The frame the hoes are mounted to may be commercial, but also may be fabricated for a particular job. Likely there are cultivator shoes on this thing that cultivate next to the row crops.
