I will soon be the new owner of an army surplus trailer, the kind that goes behind a deuce-and-a-half, and am going to need to make up an adapter so I can pull it with the L3710. This trailer is strong enough that I could probably put the tractor in it (waayyy up off the ground) and my main concern is going to be weight and balance. I figure that the p-hook will end up about in line with the back axle height. Main use is going to be getting firewood and stone. Any ideas/past experience or examples? Also, anybody have a source for the cover tarps? (Trailer has original hoops for same).

Andy, well I have a dump trailer with this hitch that I pull with my TC35. I know it's not the best method, but it works fine and I've never had a problem.
I got one of these big U hooks that have a pin that goes through the top of the U to close the two ends. I hook the open end through my Pintle hitch and the straight pin goes into on of the holes on my 3pt cross bar.

This allows the trailer to slap around some but not enough to mess anything up. It's very easy and quick to hook/unhook the trailer and it din't take any modification to the trailer, tractor, or 3pt.

I think what you are referring to, is called a twisted clevis. I got mine from Quality Farm & Fleet.

Well, mine is not "twisted" it's just a round piece bent in the shape of a U. I got mine at Agri-Supply.
