been looking for a brush hog for a couple of months now....

the local dealers think they are gold plated... ones in worse shape than below were going for $450-$550

what would you give for it?

(assume the gear box/pto shaft is good 5' width)

Have you looked at tractor supply at their king kutter brand? Brand new for a little over $500. I think? maybe $600.

ive been meaning to make it up to the TSC... but thats the funny thing about living in a large metro area. the closest TSC to me is 60 miles from my home. but only 20-30 min from the property. But its north and we dont venture up that way often because everything BUT The TSC can be found south between the property and metro STL.

$175.00 would be my limit if the gearbox is still good.

Not sure on that one. I would say $250 - $300.

I bought my 6' Cimmaron brand cutter for $850 brand new.

schmism,

Your not to far from me (8 hour drive). I know where you can buy a brand new Howse 5 foot for $475.00 or a 6 footer for $590.00 The 5 footer Howse from Northern is $749.99 but it has a different look and more ribs on top to support the deck.

All it needs is some paint,That is a good brush hog If gear box/pto shaft is good . The Howse 5 foot in the picture is light duty. I have one It will bin real easy. See the top deck it is flat That is good If you see one that has droped you better leave it along I would give 400$ for it before I would give 475$ for the Howse .if you could get it for 250$ that would be a deal.

Personally,

I wouldn't buy the Howse model above, or any Howse cutter for that matter......I have used them and do not like em'......But that IS an opinion........I also wouldn't give $175.00 for the one your looking at either.........Most I would give, again personally, would be somewhere around $100.00 but NO more..........It might have to do with your location though?.......Used implements might be pricey where you are, but I honestly don't know.

Have you looked at King Kutter or the new brand called "KODIAK"?........The Kodiaks are very good from what I hear, but I have never used one...........I will say that I would buy one though...........They are priced very reasonable here where I am...........

Like Gizmo stated, all it needs is some paint. I would give $350.00 or so for it myself.
We used to sell Howse mowers and I can tell you not to even waste your time unless you are mowing a golf course like lawn. They are very light built and most of the ones we sold came back broken within a year. They use very light matal, weak gearbox, and very very poor welding. King Kutter is not much better. Of course that is why they sell so cheap.
We have sold a great number of Ford Rotary Cutters like the one in your picture and have found they hold up very well except in oil field lease mowing. For that only a Rhino will hold up.
