Hello all;
One of the first "implements" I bought for my new CUT (spring 2006) was a 7 hole drawbar. I am absolutely a newbie but when I saw the drawbar for $20 at TSC I knew it was just what I needed to pull my (max GVW) 1500lb trailer around the property. When I put it between the 3ph arms all seemed well until I I put the trailer on the ball and the whole thing swung upside down. I know this is a common problem because I looked for solutions and found that several of you have welded together drawbar locks or bought them at TSC. Well, I don't weld (yet...and please let's not start on the thread about "a guy with a tractor that doesn't weld????") and the TSC here had never heard of a drawbar lock, nor had my NH dealer where I bought the tractor. So I'd tried some things with stock angle brackets but they all bent out of shape quickly. Last week I was at my dealers and saw this U-bolt that looked about the right size. It was $16. I bought it on a chance...
The 3ph bar was about 1/16" too wide to fit in the "U" (see pics) so I had to angle grind a bit off the inside surface of the U-bolt, but other than that it worked great!
I just thought I'd share this in case anyone else was looking for a drawbar lock but didn't have access to the "real thing".

Gee, it's seems you can't edit the title of threads, so I apologize to all for my "drawbar" typo!

I bought the TSC drawbar too. I have my neighbor, a welder (I don't weld either!) making it into one of those complete units that also attaches to the top link. He made one for himself and offered to make me one if I bought the bar. When it is ready I will post pics for anyone who wants to do the same thing. He has enough scrap steel laying around that it isn't costing anything but the $22 or so the drawbar cost. Of course I will get him a gift card or something for doing it.

Tractor Supply Company - DRAWBAR LOCK

Don't know how well that link will work but TSC # 1000786 is a drawbar lock that lists for $15.24 on the website. The problem I found with it was, although described as a Cat 1, the one in the local store with the TSC# 1000786 identification was dimensionally for a Cat 2 drawbar and hitch. I'm still looking and may wind up building my own. That might be my first project after I teach myself how to weld.

BTW, Briancd, using a clevis like that is a pretty ingenious solution.

Brinecd I think you have a very good and simple solution there. The only thing is the nomenclature of the u-bolt. I think it is called a clevis

Not only that, but it seems that I can't edit my posts at all after about one day. Of the boards I frequent this is my first experience with loosing the ability to edit my own posts based on time. Not sure what the reasoning is behind that.

its a setting in the new board softwere they are useing. they could change if a) they chose to and b) new how to...

as well as the quick reply at the bottom. "they" were advised to not use it, but only because they got bad advise. The other board im on a lot also upgraded to the same version and we went through the same thing about no quick reply. Turns out they figured out "how to make it work"

I bought a locking bracket from an independent dealer- I think it was about $20.00- works great-The brackets are out there, but I like the clevis solution too. I will try to post a picture- if the weather clears up. Rain, Rain,Rain- Go Away!
