Has anyone here used one of these FEL clamp on shovels / shrub spades? Opinions on if this will work on smaller trees / Xmas trees?

Randy - I did a search and saw MrJimi's pictures and setup. His was a fully welded setup with attachment plates to use the shrub bucket in place of the FEL bucket. I really don't have either the tools or welding skill to make one like his (though I wish I did - it's really nice), so I was trolling to see if anyone had used a clamp on one like I found for sale on ebay ($500).

Good morning Champy and thanks Randy.
I would be afraid something like that could bend a bucket. I know you must have a friend that has a welder that could throw something like that together for you much more reasonable than the $500 price tag, mine is 4 feet front to back and I can say it works GREAT!! Its like driving a big shovel around the tree and lifting it out, real simple and easy

Might want to try Markham welding, they make one for the bobcat, that would leave you the option of getting a quick attach for the front of your tractor, or they could probably put those sleeve's on, or make one with your pin spacing on the back.

I want one, just have not sold the boss on the idea yet.

I apologize for hijacking this thread, but I too have been looking at stump buckets/tree spades to dig up some tallow tree stumps. I will definitely NOT use a clamp on because I'm afraid of bending the bucket. I tried using my pallet forks, but the forks were bending! The pallet forks are kinda light duty (2000 lb rating) and my FEL is only good for 1500 lbs. I paid too much for these QA forks to tear them up. I'm thinking of using a piece of 20" dia pipe about 4' long cut in half lengthwise and beveled like a shovel, welded to a QA plate. My problem has been locating pipe that is 3/8" thick. I have a piece that is 1/4" thick but don't know if it would be substatial enough. MrJimi - How thick is the metal on your spade? What are your thoughts on my pipe idea? If anyone else has experience here, please sound off. Thanks,

Shovel

Shovelhead - I was thinking along the sames lines regarding a sloping or tapered cut on a length of pipe. My issue is that I want to weld it to a flat plate along with the hooks and pins that will match my bucket attachment points instead of using a QA / skidsteer setup. MrJimi made his this way and it looks great (except he welded the bucket together from flat stock)...... but using the length of pipe might be stronger and easier - right?

I'm willing to spend 15-20 minutes swapping the FEL bucket for a shrub bucket.
