I would like to get a rear blade for snow removal. A 5' KK blade is $228 at TSC. I have the opportunity to purchase a 5' 20 series Bush Hog blade for $325. I don't know if the $325 is a good price or not. The dealer says it is discounted because it is faded from being on the lot for a year. And if that is a good price, is Bush Hog worth $100 more? I haven't had any luck finding a used blade that isn't bent.

Look at the specs and decide. I suspect the BH is better built and heavier. Also look at the blade articulations (which one is more flexible/gives more positions) and how easy they are to change.

I agree, BH is more $$ and most likely a better balde. You get what you pay for.

Ok, don't laugh, I just compared the specs for both. The KK blade weighs 250lbs, has 14" high moldboard and has 5 forward and 5 reverse settings. The Bush Hog blade is 150lbs, has 12" high moldboard, has 5 forward and 3 reverse settings. Both are 1/4" thick. Looks like the KK is the better buy unless the workmanship is bad on the KK.

It sounds like the Bush Hog is made for a subcompact. It seems the subcompact implements usually cost more.

Roxy,

I buy a lot of KK implements and they work just fine and save me enough money to buy a few more by buying theirs. If you're not usinf them commercially and they hold up for the tasks. Why Not? I plan on keeping them a long time and don't care about resale on them. If they work buy em!! Some may disagree on the quality of KK, but if they have the weight they work just fine. Just my opinion...

I'm thinking a 250lb blade will do the trick for removing the lighter and lesser amounts of snow. The big drifts will have to be moved with the FEL. I question whether a 150lb blade, Bush Hog or not, would hold up. The 35 series Bush Hog weighs 280lbs, I suppose I could ask for a price on that one for a better comparison. Resale value doesn't concern me, just getting something that will last.

I’d buy the heavier blade if it were me. It may not make much difference with snow but if it is used at all for dirt the extra weight is your friend.

Do either of these blades offer any adjustments besides the forward and reverse angle settings? There are many blades out there in roughly the same price range that will tilt and swing to the side in addition to the angle settings. That is real handy for cleaning ditches. Also make sure that 5’ is wide enough that when you angle the blade your still wider than the foot print of your tires.

I have the BH 35 and it has proved to be very stout though, I only have a BX and try not to abuse either, but abuse has occured. For dirt work, sometimes the 280# isn't enough. I got mine as a package deal w/ the BX so a good price. If I bought otherwise, I'd probably go with a KK or similar as they sound plenty stout for my use.

My tractor is 40 inches wide. So I think a 5 ft blade would work well even when angled. There are KK blades that tilt, etc, but I don't have a price on any of those yet.
