I'm trying to decide what to get for my tc40 to mow with. When I bought it I was thinking of getting a rhino se6 which is a 72" shredder, or rotery cutter for you non Texicans. I still think about mowing like I did in the old days on my place when I was trying to reclaim a once proud cotton farm from a variety of trash trees like ceder, mesquite winged elm, persimmon and wild plum. I have, over the last 10 years killed tens of thousands of these trees out of a 50 ac pasture, and I now can proudly say I only have mostly grass. The occasional rogue tree (or 600-800)still tries to make a valant stand every year, but they are quickly dispatched with a matlock or poison. The matlock and 50 mesquites is quite an arobic workout.
I'm now thinking of a 100" range rfm. Since the scrub is mostly gone I'm thinking this may be the way to go. Several companies like rhino and woods and BH make the 100"er and they only require 35hp. I mow about 2x a year with a old howse shredder and a 5' finish mower. With a 10"er on the TC and a 60" on the 5020, we'd be taking out quite a path per pass.
I have seen someone post that a rear discharge rfm acts kinda like a cross between a shredder and a rfm, able to take reasonably sized, .5" or slightly more, small trees and mow heavy grass. I've taken out .5" trees with my side discharge estate mower with .25" blades, no problem. The Rhino 100 has 3/8X30" blades. That's not too light a duty. My grass never seems to get too heavy due to the cows, but with rain it can be. We haven't had to worry about rain in recent years.
Anyone use a similar sized mower on a same size tractor? Any thoughts before I talk to a dealer. TIA, Mark
