Rake Buying a Rake

Matt, I have a KK 7' rake and it does ok for what I need. I couldn't justify the high $ of the others for what little I would use it. Guage wheels make an amature look like a pro when leveling dirt or stone. If you can weld or have a friend that does, you can make a set for arround 50$. If you do a search for guage wheels you will find some realy good ones to copy.Make sure you get one wide enough so that when you angle it, it will cover your tracks

I have a Land Pride LR1584. Bought the rake used from dealer for $500. It had been used for leveling the arena at the local 4-H fair. A couple of years later I bought the gage wheels. They were about $375. But I did get the heavy duty set because of the 84" width.
Sure looks like the prices are sky rocketing on things made out of steel.:(

It really stinks because I really like to buy quality stuff. My wife says "I always want the best" I can see a difference in quality between the Wood,Landpride,Frontier and the King Kutter stuff but not a 3 to 4 hundred dollar one. I know I'll use the rake some but I don't think I'll be able to get 1k plus out of it. Is there a lot of them on the used market? I think I was quoted around $650 for a Woods medium duty a few weeks back but I almost **** when the dealer told me the price. I was expecting to pay around $400-$500 max. I've seen some on ebay but I really don't want to buy something sight unseem and not be able to get parts (if needed) I'm also concerned about I match compatibilty.

I ordered a HD landscape rake with gauge wheels and hydraulic cylinder and it was around $1800. From everything I've read it is a tool that I will probably use most on my farm. I like high quality tools that way I am only purchasing once. I am hoping it comes in either this week or next week.

Matt, check out Howse Implement. On their website they have prices posted. I don't know if they have a dealer near you.

Matt - I have a 7' rake with wheels (Camco brand) that I never use - very similar to this one (almost as shiny) - tires are pneumatic - 3" wide. Sent you an email. $300 loaded into your pickup.
(Appologies to all for the shameless commerce - but Matt needs a rake !)

Matt better jump on that deal.
Even if he has to drive up there to pick it up. :)

Ditto. That is an excellent price and a nice looking rake. Bigger gauge wheels than on most of the higher priced brands too. Go for it.

So what new implement are you going to buy with your $300?

So everybody is clear who may not have read my above post closely, the rake in the picture is very similar to mine but is not the same. On mine the wheels are smaller and the 3-point is stiffer - here are some actual pics of my rake taken today.
