What needs to be altered on Cat 2 attachments to use them on a Cat 1 tractor? I know the lower arm pins have to be changed to fit and maybe the spread may need narrowing on some tools. But how do you reduce the hole size for the top link; what is the easy way and what is the best way?

Top link? easy, I do it all the time with a sleeve that fits in the CAT 2 toplink hole and reduces it to CAT 1.

a lot of cat 2 impiments wont have pins but instead brackets to capture the end of the link with holes for double shear pins. (stronger this way)

like already noted, bush the holes down

Is this sleeve a tight friction fit or do you have to weld it in? If it goes all the way through from one side to to the other how does the cat 1 end on the top link get fitted in there? It would be too large to go through the cat 1 end on the top link wouldn't it?

This is something I have been curious about. I have Cat II on my tractor and several older implements in the shed with Cat I pins. Is it just a matter of putting a sleave in the balls on the lower arms and top link?

I'm also concerned about the strength.

Thanks

Better check the width of the pins on the Cat 2 implements. Sometimes you will find that they are 32" apart rather than the nominal 26" for Cat 1. bobg in va

Doc_Bob Please tell me more about how to use this sleeve as you use it to enable the use of Cat 2 implements on a Cat 1 tractor.

You're talking about Cat II attachments, right?
Usually, they have larger lower lift pins and are spread wider apart than Cat I. You can buy Cat I lift pins and bolt them on the attachment so they are facing inwards, instead of outwards. Then adjust the drag links out to meet them. You can get lift pins that have a Cat II threaded shaft and step down to Cat I pin size. That way they'll fit the bolt holes on the implement real good.

As far as the top link, that's usually part of the tractor, no? So if you have a Cat I tractor, all you have to do is use the pin that fits your Cat I top link and put that through the hole(s) in your implement. You can use bushings there if you want to snug up the fit.

Maybe these links will help.

Most Tractor Supply stores stock a good assortment of the draw pins, bushings, etc. I'm sure that they'll be glad to special order something that isn't in stock.

As far as the top link goes, you might be able to use a Cat II top link and use a bushing to adapt it the the Cat I mount on the tractor, although I'm sure that two bushings and the proper length top link pin could be made to work.

But you need to pay attention when buying, there are two types of Cat 1 lift pins: there's the kind that's Cat 1 on both ends. You don't want them. You want the ones that are Cat 1 on the pin end and Cat 2 on the threaded end

Same goes for lifting Cat 1 implements with a Cat 2 TPH. There are Cat 2 pins that are Cat 2 on both ends. You don't want them. You want the ones that are Cat 2 on the pin end and Cat 1 on the threaded end.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.
