The specs appear very similar to the TSC model made by Huskee/Speeco. My opinion is that you are fine with the GPM flow. My JD 790 rated flow is lower than yours and I am happy running at 1800RPM. Do not get obsessed with super fast cycle times. Cycle times involve running the ram all the way the maximum travel distance. I usuually travel about 2-4 inches and the wood splits. Then I back up. A slow cycle time is irrelevant when you only use 10-20% of the mamimum travel distance and thus 10-20% of the cycle time.

The only concern I see with the Northern Tool version is whether backing up and manuevering in your garage or on your land might be an issue with the straight out the back mounting method. When the front of the tractor swings around a turn, the far end of the splitter is sweeping a pretty wide arc.

I have a lot of trees on my lot with minor damage from the backhoe hitting then when I turned. This was with the backhoe tucked fully in and sticking out only about than 4' Your splitter will be sticking out about the same amount.

I have an old one I have run with a Ford 1200 [6GPM]and a Cub 234?. I set it on a piece of 4x8 plywood on saw horses and use 12' hoses. Then I can split into the bucket. Had it on the 3PH once. PIA. Takes very little room to store. bcs

I have one - run it on my 4.6 GPM B7500.

It moves fast enough for me!

I have a Kubota L3400 with a FEL and without rear hydraulic connections. Is it ok to get longer hoses and run it off of the FEL hydraulic connections as the FEL is a quick detach, I mean the entire FEL sits right off?? Is has a 6.3 GPM flow which is about the same as the main which is 6.5 gpm??

I have used both 3pt splitters and self powered traditional units.

For me I think your better off with a separate unit on this. It is easier to move a small self power splitter to minimize lifting and lugging.

You can keep your loader right next to the splitter and load directly from the splitter to the loader. Handling the wood less times.

You can move the tractor and take a full load away while not disturbing the splitter setup, or someone can continue to split as the tractor takes the split wood to the woodshed.

Chris

I have the Northern Tool splitter. It works perfect on my JD 4710 which has 11 gpm hydraulic flow. The speed is OK but not fast but like someone else mentioned you rarely use the whole stroke anyway so it is really not an issue.

I just changed the fittings over to be able to run the splitter from the remote hydraulics on my Kubota RTV-900 which has a 5.5 gpm flow. I only did a quick test but at typical RPM the speed seemed acceptable. I'll find out for sure later today when I start splitting the big stack of logs I have accumulated.

I've had both stand alone and the kind that runs off the tractor. I like the splitter that runs off the tractor because there is no maintenance to it, it's easier to maneauver if your splitting out in the woods, and your friends typically won't ask to borrow it because they either don't have a tractor or the fittings don't match up.:) When they ask to borrow the tractor too is when you start to worry!

partsman, I would like to hear how well your kubota powers the logsplitter. After you try it please post your thoughts. I have a BX with the same gpm and would like to know what that does for cycle times.

I got a chance to try the splitter with the RTV yesterday. It's not the fastest splitter I've ever used but the speed is tolerable. With the auto return it is usually back in the right position right about the time I'm ready to set another log on. There is not much difference in the speed whether I use the RTV or the tractor even though the tractor has twice the gpm. Overall I'm happy with it.:)
