Does anyone have any experience with these?

PTO drive welder and quick charger

Looks neat as all get-out and the price appears to be right if it really works.

I asked a guy here locally about them and he said that they didn't produce enough power to really weld and that I'd be better off buying a little Miller for $2500. Oddly enough he had a buddy that sells Miller's that would be more than happy to help me out.
I really don't need any help spending an extra $1750, I'm pretty good at that by myself!

So, anyone seen one, tried one or know someone who has?

Went to the site, didn't do much searching,[was looking for prices, couldn't find them],,so does the 150 amp cost 750 dollars??,,if so,that will burn a 1/8 rod,,and if so,,thats a **** of a price,,plus you get a money back thing,,,wonder what the duty cycle is,,no motor,,need about 120 amps for 1/8 rod,, yeah, looks good,,only thing is the ac,,,most people want ac power for generator and tools,[plug in I mean],,saw they had some kind of rectifer to add on?? wonder what that costs??,,you can buy a miller 185 amp,,dc,,for about 2,300,,,and you got a gen plus you don't need a tractor, plus you can put it in the back of your truck and go down the road,,,now if that machine could be had for say 1500 or so,,with ac capability,,maybe,,,the miller produces 5,500 watts ac continuous,,,,,,but bottom line is price,,so,,if you was to always have a tractor,,and you didn't need a generator,,and you wasn't ever planning on going 5 miles up the road to weld something,,yeah,,,might be worth doing more detailed investigation,,,or if you had a big farm [was really a farmer],had several tractors,,yeah sounds good,,thingy

Ooops.
I dug a little deeper, the $750 is for the basic welder that you can mount to an electric motor, under the hood of your truck on pully drive, or to a gasoline or diesel engine.

The PTO drive welder is $4175 w/ shipping.
Yep, looks like I'll be looking for a stand alone welder/generator!

Besides, I think you're right Thingy, I'd really prefer something that I can haul anywhere and use without the tractor.
I've got an old motorcycle trailer that I've been wanting to convert to a welding trailer, so I guess I'll keep pursuing that route.

Yeah, lotta money there,,been thinking about that duty cycle though,,,wouldn't it be 100 percent? On the pto one,bet it would,,,
If you want one to just keep mounted on trailer or back of truck,,get a bigger one, northern tools catalogue sells one,a hobart, for 2600 dollars,,230 amp 10,000 watt generator,,its got running gear that they sell for it as well,,,I paid about 2300 dollars for my littler one,a miller,,but I wanted something that I could pretty easily put in back of truck or move, its got a wheel set on it and handle,,,its a 185 amp,6,000 watt generator,d.c.,electric start,,,,butyou can get more bang for your buck by going bigger, just depends on what all you want it for,,,mine would probably run a little mig too,but that 10,000 watt one would diffently run a good size mig machine,,you could mount it in a trailer, and just leave it there,,,,thingy

duty cycle has to do with the size of the transformers and there ablity to disipate heat. If your running a transformer at near capacity it will generate a lot of heat = bad. those welders with higher duty cycles generallly run larger transformers, larger wireing and have better internal cooling.

nove of the above is garenteed for a PTO drive version which basicly just sounds like a PTO drive generator that provides the power for a conventional welder.

4175$? dang.. You could buy a 12kw pto gen for about 1200$.. and then a 400$ ac/dc stick welder.. slap it all on a 500$ utility trailer and be way ahead on money... heck.. a gas generator would do it. if ya didn't want the pto gen...

I looked at these. I studied and figured but couldn't make the $$$ work out. I bought a Lincoln Ranger 10k and spent the extra money on grinders, rods and a trailer.

Bought a Miller 400 amp welder mounted on a trailer powered by a two cylinder Deutch diesel. Has 6000 hours on it but works fine and paid only 1500 dollars for at as a surplus welder at one of my companies work sites. This has served me well for the last few years and it also has a built in generator that we use in case of power outages.

That's what i'm looking for, a deal on a good used diesel welder, i've got feelers out here locally looking for one.
As many brand new welders as i'm seeing in the backs of pickups, you'd think there would be a glut of older ones on the market.

I'd love to have one of those Hobarts that thingy was talking about, but after buying a trailer and tractor i'm not sure i can squeeze another $2600 out of the budget!

Keep your eyes open and ears to the ground. I bought a Miller Bobcat that was 3 months old, for less than 1/2 price. Kept it fifteen years, mostly for the generator and then sold it for 25% more than I paid for it. Deals are out there, you just have to be lucky enough to find them.
