What did I do wrong?

I guess different mowers come with different top link connectors,,this kk I got came with a bent piece of steel that moved when you attached top link,,,but it didn't do much in the way of keeping rear wheel on the ground,,,tried it several ways,,,,than tried the chain,,been using it for 4 years like this,,works great. The only good that top link does for me on the mower is lets me raise it up,the chain does the same thing.
I know,,people will say it will keep your tractor from upsetting or flipping up,,,but,,,I cut on some steep hills that are not all that level, and the chain allows the mower rear wheel to remain on ground most of time, thus maybe carrying half the mowers weight, and the half thats futhest back,,so far,so good, now if you was cutting on much steeper hills than me,yep, that solid top link might be the best,,but I live in w.va.,and those hills I mow up are pretty steep, you wouldn't want to mow on much steeper hills anyways you'd do it.
As far as flipping up towards you if you'd hit something,,thats a possibilty, but it would hit rear of tractor before it got to me,,[plus,in my case, that ain't going to happen,I don't think],,
But if your connection allows yours to float thats even better, best of both worlds,,but if any body has trouble in this regard, try a chain. thingy
