I have posted a couple of threads concerning a backhoe. I am new to backhoes and got my Bush Hog BH650 on Tuesday. Got it home and started to mount the pump kit. After 4+ hours trying to mount the oil reservior I succeeded in getting 3 of the four bolts installed, the fourth location did not line up and I needed to use a smaller diameter bolt to pass through the existing holes that were not aligned. Now with that done I proceeded to mount the oil filter and the threaded fittings on both the oil filter and oil reservior. Then I mounted the high pressure hose assemblies and finally the low pressure hoses.

All of the low pressure fitting (non threaded ends) had the same OD. Yet the kit came with two different size hoses (OD/ID). So one of the hoses fit fine and I was able to tighten the hose clamps. The other hose, the larger one, was loose on the fittings and the provided hose clamps would't fit over the larger hose. I went to the hardware store and got two larger hose clamps that would go around the larger hose. I tighten the clamps with a socket so I could get it tight and I still can spin the hose on the fitting. It appears that the larger hose will not colllapse enough to seal on the fitting.

Now for my question. The hose in question is the hose that supplies the oil from the oil reservior to the oil pump. I believe there isn't any pressure in this hose, in fact there is a vaccum or a suction, correct? Is the provided hose larger in diameter so it can supply a larger amount of oil to the pump or is a screw up by Bush Hog?

I kinda think It's a screw up!

Next I will mount my SubFrame Kit. OhBoy I can hardly wait!!!!!! Maybe the instructions will be better!

You have 2 problems. There is a suction there from the pump, it will draw air and foam the oil. Bad things will happen to the pump. Then when you are not using it, the oil will drip out.

Call BH and explain the issue. The fitting probably should be larger for a tight fit on the larger hose. They are a good company and will send out the correct part. If you can't wait, the hardware store will have what you need, just bring the old one and the hose.

That's what I thought, just wanted to hear from someone else to kind of reinforce my understanding. Like I said before, I am new to backhoes.

Thanks for the info!

I called the dealer and ask him about my problem. After he looked into it, he called me back and told me that the fittings should of been 1" OD not 3/4" OD to match the hose ID and is shipping out the correct parts. All the parts came in a tough plastic bag that was tied with a string and knotted. So I am guessing someone grabed the wrong bag and stuck it in the box. I also had some parts in the bag that didn't have a use for my installation. So someone somewhere is trying to assemble their backhoe pump kit and having a similar problem with fittings that are to big for the hoses they have.

It's the learning curve!!! :)
