I am thinking about getting a reversible dirt scoop to help locate some topsoil--I've got a box blade, but there's some spots I just need to pick up the dirt and carry it, where I can't drag it with the BB.

I see dirt scoops listed as "24 inches" and "30 inches" What dimension does this refer to--length? Surely it can't be width, or could it? that'd make it way more than 30 inches across the 3PH pins on the lower arms...

Thanks....

I have one sitting under my lean that I only used a couple of times...I wish you were closer I would give you a good price. I believe the 30" is the across the blade measurment. That seems about right. Mine is a king kutter and it seems like it may be 30" square or close to it.

I have the smaller of the two, and have considered building a new, larger one. Maybe something around a 48 or 54 inch so I can haul some real dirt instead of just playing with it. I have a large pile about a third of a mile up the road, and the 24" scoop is just too small.
What I really need is a pan, instead of a scoop.

Sandman, didn't you have a Ford 1100, I seem to recall you made a trencher for it? I've got the F1100 myself...

If so, did you use the 24 inch on it...would a 30 inch fit and perform OK?

Bill,
I acquired the scoop after having purchased the JD2555, so I never hooked it to the Ford. I sold the Ford to a good friend, but he is a little far to be borrowing implements.
You can control how much dirt you carry with the scoop, so I would probably purchase the larger one anyway, if I had a choice and the price was close. I use mine to pick up strange stuff, such as stumps, piles of bricks, etc, and the extra width would come in handy. I don't think there is a lot of weight difference between the two sizes, so that shouldn't effect the usage much.

I dont believe you'll have a problem with your tractor(because its larger), but I borrowed a scoop from a buddy of mine.. Its a great tool for moving dirt, however on my little Yanmar I cant dump the scoop(the wheels are too close).. Just make sure you dont get one too big..
