Last year I purchased the heavy duty Gannon boxscaper with hydraulic lift....I like this option quite a bit. Lately I have been using my boxscaper quite a bit tp re-groom a 1600' driveway. It has several potholes that I wanted to take out and regrade. Since it was my first time to do this I wanted to go slow and reverse the tines for less aggressive cutting. After I switched all the tines backwards in the up position I found I could not lower them as they collide with the backing plate.....I didn't expect the forward arc to be sooooo close. Since it was getting late in the day I ended up scraping and crowning the best I could without lowered tines. I will be back at it again in the Spring with a modified tine setup that has the reverse edge with raising and lowering.

Does that mean you don't like the box blade? I'm curious about the hydraulic setups.

And is there any value to reversing the tines, over just extending them less? I don't have any experience myself.

just remember to cut below the potholes or they will return quite quickly, just a tad bit of info for ya.

Charlesaf3 - I'm very pleased with the Gannon. The hydraulics are a nice to have as I can lower to churn the ground and raise to smooth out in forward or reverse. The hydraulics really only have an up and down position. Reversing the tines digs in less and doed not catch underground obstruction. There are two notches in the tine shanks to give the user 2 choices for extension beyond blades when lowered. Overall this is a nice heavy unit that does not require any additional weight added.

Shiggy - Yes I'm aware of the cut below. I did most but not all which means I expect potholes again. I did notice that the small stone top is getting thin as I hit some larger rocks which I assume to be at bed level. This is a shared driveway that I bought into last year and the other 2 families do not have a clue or resources to maintain. I have and will continue to do my part to maintain existing shared drive until I build my own driveway next year.

Hmmm, interesting. Not having one I was under the impression you could infinitely vary the position of the scarifiers with the hydraulic cylinder for whatever cut you want? I figured the hydraulic cylinder would hold them there.

I thought of using the rotating hydraulic ripper system when I modified my Howse boxblade, but the depth of the box did not allow it. So I made a geared hydraulic system that fit inside the existing frame. It allows an infinite amount of adjustment for the rippers and they stay in the position I put it in. I also added a manual lever for "in case". With that in mind, my concept didn't turn out too bad after all.

It's either locked down with a lock pin or just up out of the way, The hydraulic cylinder doesn't have the power to hold it. I use my position control if I want to vary the depth of the cutters.

There is a box blade made that will let you vary the height of the riipper teeth. Cammond makes several models, depending on weight of the box blade.

I also forgot to mention that Cammond will paint the attachment to match your color of tractor.
