IH Brush Hog / rotary mower

Hi all, Does anyone have any info on IH brush hogs. I bought one site unseen (minus the drive shaft) for $50. My nephew found it for me and I am going to need to purchase a drive shaft for it. I don't really care what shape it is in as long as it works, as I am going to be beating up some pasture that has not been mowed in 10+ years. I'll get to see it this spring after the snow melts in the NE kingodom of VT. my nephew says he has used it in the past with no issues. It is a 5' model. I figured at that price it was worth a shot.

Is it an "International Harvester" or International brand shredder? They are different animals.

I can't say I've ever seen an IH rotary mower but the International brand has been sold around for years now.

Nonetheless, for $50 if it cuts weeds and shreds limbs/stalks/roots half-way then it's a decent investment.

IH did retail a unit for many years although we never sold any as we went with other brands do to the price. I'd measure up the length needed after hooking it up on the tractor and go shopping, we like many dealers stock after market shaft and cover units with diffent yokes at far reduced pricing over the factory shafts.

Well,,, I am not sure about the exact brand, however, he did tell me, that it is the same as what a local dealer is presently selling. I guess I will just have to wait untill the snow melts and I can get up to my place this spring.

Anything "International Harvester" branded is now at least 20 years old. (or more) Case IH continued to sell items formerly badged as IH well in to the 90's, but I don't recall seeing any rotary cutters of either brand.

IMC, also going with their popular name of "International" builds and sells some mighty fine medium to heavy duty cutters at a good price compared to the "name brands" like Bush Hog and Woods. IMC mowers, box blades, ect.... sell good around here. Several dealers here carry them. Never heard any bad comments on their products.

A 5' mower in HORRIBLE condition is worth $50. If it's in decent shape you got yourself a bargain! New pto shafts are available at most good farm supply stores, TSC, and even NAPA. You will increase your investment about 300% (or more). Check EBAY (search farm equipment, pto shaft) and you'll turn up a bunch of "generic" shafts, some at good prices. I bought one just a few weeks ago. (new 60" class 4 shaft w/ slip clutch for $88, shipping included)

I live 25 miles west of Boston, and have a place in the North East Kingdom of Vermont. Some day it will be Vermont only and I will be gone from Mass all together!
