Why have a cab?

Would a cab offer more protection in the event of a rollover? I am debating if I want a cab on my next tractor but I think the money might make the choice for me. :)

I had a curtis cab that was not rops rated, the tractor it was on had a factory rops. I think you will find most factory cabs are now rops rated.

A CAB IS A BEAUTIFUL THING......... AND IF YOU HAVE TO ASK WHY A CAB, YOU HAVE NOT RUN A TRACTOR WITH ONE!

I rented a large loader one time, full cab air etc. While I was clearing some Mesquite trees, in the Desert SW, after the dust cleared on one pick up the cab became dark, like a solar eclipse ( not an exaggeration ). What I upset was a mother load of bees, and the all hit the cab’s windows. Man was that amazing. And they wouldn’t leave. Fearing they would find some vent to get into this rented tractor I beat feet out of there.
That’s one good reason for a cab.
By the way I never did get the Mesquite cleared, because I won’t go in there with my open cab Kubota.

Let me jump on the warm side of the fence - cabs are the only way to run a tractor.

What really bugs me though is the cost. Our Kobata dealer says the cab on L3430 is nearly a $10 K (CDN) option. That's robbery, just so you can survive in our country.

I am still going to buy a tractor, the cab is on my wish list only because of the cost. I can't imagine clearing snow today its a warm -15 F outside with a 30 MPH wind - that makes it the same as -36 below without counting the speed of the tractor.

Its robbery I say. What to do except to get the checkbook out.

Garth:)

Cabs are for sissies, I never get snow on my tractor. :) Of course we don't get any snow either.

Hmmm I must be a sissy. My wife insisted when I bought a new tractor that I get a cab. It had something to do with my being alergic to bee stings and that a cab might stop me from getting stung if I brushhog over a yellow jacket nest. or maybe hit a hornets nest while I am going through the brush.

Now that I have it when it is 100 degrees + outside and I am mowing or moving dirt it is pretty nice to just turn on the air conditioner and the stereo and enjoy the experience

Why have a cab? Hmmm…I can only think of a couple of reasons…..hornets, bees, mosquitoes, black flies, cool air, warm air, cold air, hot air, music, status, frost bite, skin cancer, frustration, dust, pollen, dirt, mud slop, branch whips, sweating, cup holder, critter attacks, visibility, rear view mirrors, front light attach points, rear light attach points, being dry in a rain, 12V power outlet, arm rests, adjustable seat, heavily padded seat, spring loaded seat, storage, “space ship” instrumentation, keeping clean, coat/hat hooks, dual windshield wipers, window defrosters, being “inside” at 63 degrees while it’s 100F outside, being “inside” at 63F degrees while it’s –24F outside, snow-blowing while wearing a light nylon jacket, not inhaling exhaust fumes, missing the pounding rap of a diesel for ten hours, love bugs, drinks that are more liquid than dust, ……did I mention status? Yep, cabs are worthless…..why have a cab?

Ken

OK I think ken pretty well covers that subject. Next

I also am allergic to bees and must inject myself with adrenaline when i get stung. Justification for the expense of my kubota factory cab? Protection from sun/heat/cold/frostbite/bees/pesticides/etc. Yes cabs are expensive, for me it's a must!

I've used a cab a lot. It'll spoil you. But it also makes it impossible to hear squeaky crunchy sounds from your implements tearing up. WIthin the past year, I had 3 incidents where no cab would have caught a problem early.

That said, I still prefer a cab. The A/C, radio, and no dust up my snoot are worth an occasional broken or detached implement. :)
