In another append I was introduced to rock buckets (not sure that's the name) which have teeth long enough and close enough such that they root up rocks and when the rocks are up on the teeth the dirt falls back through the teeth so you're only picking up the rocks.

Does anybody know of a tooth bar that serves this function and is mountable on a FEL (I have a 48" bucket on a 23HP Kubota 7500) ? For most of the tooth bars I've seen the teeth are too short (e.g. they serve as normal teeth and thus not rooting up rocks very well) AND they are spaced too far apart (such that they wouldn't pick up smaller 2 or 3 inch rocks which is why the rock buckets I've seen have teeth spaced about 3 inches apart).

Seems if I could find such a beast it could also serve more or less like regular teeth on a tooth bar in a pinch.

Anybody know of such a tooth bar ?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, I think I would just stick with the standard toothbar on your tractor. It's size, weight, and lift capacity seem to be best served by a standard bucket and a toothbar.

The problem you will see with long teeth is that you will lose a tremendous amount of curl power as the teeth get longer. Many CUT owners have bought skid-steer loader buckets and then discovered that their extra depth makes them unusable or have much less use than the standard CUT bucket. The link JLoaf posted shows a skid-steer and it's bucket made by Markham Welding. I don't think you would be happy with that.

If I were you, I'd just get the toothbar and dig out the rocks. If you have lots of them, you can keep the bucket tilted down and rake them into a pile before picking them up. That way you will get a lot less soil. I have a 45 hp tractor and a 60" rock bucket. I can tell you that my tractor works really hard with that bucket. I can just imagine that your tractor would struggle with the longer tines.

Thanks to all for your advice. I may have champagne taste on a beer budget. That rock bucket looks ideal, but as pointed out after thinking about it my 23HP Kubota just may not have the testosterone for it. I've had to take some teeth off my box blade before due to lack of power. I'm encouraged though from the description about just using a plain ol' tooth bar and raking. Thanks again.
