Wanted to know from folks that have one how it works and any tips you have picked up from using it like best speed to depth ratio for soil. Also anyone switched out the gear case oil for synthetic?

I have a 60" one and like it a lot. It's set at full depth. With the HST I adjust speed on the fly to match the soil condition. Typically if you are too fast it will bounce around a lot and leave more chunks. It's better to go a bit too fast and make 2 passes at 90 degree's to each other. Especially for a sod bound field.

No synthetic. You planning on tilling in sub-zero temps??

I have a 60" King Kutter tiller.
Works good.
I till in the lowest gear my tractors have at full depth. I just run regular gear oil in the gear box.

I've got a 5 year old 72" KK tiler. It's seen more than the average amount of use. I used it to re-work a few hayfields shortly after I bought it. 4 years ago, it spent 4 straight 8-hour days grinding up hard dry clay, while on the back of a 60HP tractor. I've managed to wear out a set of tines and now working on wearing out set #2.

Not so much as a whimper from the tiller.

I'd match it against any brand of any price. Add to that the fact that it sells at the lower end of the price range for 6' tillers, and it's a no brainer.

I drop it down to maximum depth on the first pass, in as low of a gear as I have to work with usually. Boredom took its tole when I did the hayfields. I stepped up a couple gears. (With enough HP you can do that) It still performed like a champ. While I don't recommend that, the KK tiller can HANDLE the torture.

Mine still has O.E.M. gear oil in it. I check it every so often, but haven't felt the urge to change it yet.

Good stuff on how to use them with the best efficiently which is what I really needed to know plus how the KK Tillers held up to hard work. I bought a KK 72" tiller and a KK 6 1/2ft disc a couple of days ago when Orschelns had them on sale here. To add some weight to my disc I plan on adding concrete on top of it after welding some mods to hold it. I run synthetic in everything so I was just curious if anyone was. I know it made a difference in my 7ft cutter, quieter running now but the oil was black when I drained it so probably any new oil in it would have helped.

I don't recommend KK for generally, but the gear drive tillers are good.

How much did you pay for the disc? What is the base weight?

I am also not a big fan of KK equipment, but I do have their gear drive 72" tiller. Have owned it about 5 years. I broke the rear tail gate hinge and rewelded it but that was my fault. I broke the chain on the tail gate a few times but again my fault. Now I attach the chain with a peice of wire. The wire breaks instead of the chain. Tines are about half worn down. I have used it in some ground that was so hard, I had to have tractor in 4WD or it would push the tractor and stall the engine from being too aggressive. I would buy another one if needed.
My only complaint is that the bottom hooks on my spee co quick hitch are too fat to fit between the pins and tiller. I just remove the quick hitch when I need to. Someday I will weld on an extension where the pins are located and bring the pins farther forward.
I still have the original gear oil in the drive. No leaks. (That reminds me to check it this spring - its been a couple of years)

Ditto this post for me. It has done everything I've asked of it. I haven't used any other brands but KK seems pretty good, at least for this tiller anyway.

p.s.---they don't like rocks. Not one bit.

The 72in tiller was $1356.00 new and the 6 1/2ft disc was $579.00......base weight I am not sure of except that it is too light and needs weight added. I am going to use my welder to beef it up to handle the concrete I am pouring on top to add weight to it. If it works, great, if it doesn't I will make more passes.

Mainly going to use the disc for large food plots of wheat and such. Also to use it for breaking up the ground a little before tilling larger gardens for people if its needed.
