I few weeks ago i notice a guy with a John Deere tractor with a front blade that had what appeared to be a serrated edge working on his driveway. This i know would be good for cutting sod as well as hard packed driveways. SO two things here. I would like to find out where i could get one of these. Also i talked to my friend that i bought the tractor from and he talked to the guy at WR Long and he siad that there have been a few people ask about this other than me. If he could find enough that were intrested he may consider adding it to his line. So if no one knows where to get these things we might could get WR Long to make one if enough expresses some intrest. If i cant find one then i am going to get a cutting edge and have the local machine shop serrate it for me. Post please and let me know.

Darkviper, here is a pic of my JD3520 w/ JD390 front blade. I got a used serrated cutting edge off a CAT 16 grader. It takes two for the 16 grader and therefore is 8 feet long. Its nice and heavy and should hold up for years. I use it for grading up 3000+ feet of stone road. It does a really super job. You can call your local Caterpillar dealer and get a price on a serrrated edge. Depending on your blade width you can get a price on whatever lenght comes closest to your needs. Half of a 16 grader would be 8 feet, half of a 14 grader would be 7 feet and half of a 12 grader cutting edge is 6 foot. You can trim any excess lenght with a cutoff saw. I never trimmed off the extra 12 inches of lenght on the edge I have because I like the 8 foot width for grading. Although the Cat edge has holes every 6 inches on center,my 390 moldboard has the hole spacing every 12 inches on center,so I catch every other hole on the CAT edge which is plenty strong enough. You don't want to get a standard edge serrated by a machine shop, because of the cost and its not going to be any where near as heavy as a CAT cutting edge. Feel free to ask any questions you might have. Sincerely, Dirt

On graders I believe the serrated edges are used for ice.:D

Not really...........the first ones I saw in operation were on a National Forrest Road in Idaho. They were grading up on the stone roads there and the results were really good. I've worked for several large excavating contractors that use them on their motor graders for haul road grading. The roughed up surface they leave give the 100 ton Cat trucks some extra bite when the haul road gets wet and slick.I've used mine on ice covered blacktop roads and actually get better results with just a plain cutting edge, because the serrated edge leaves lines of ice between the serrations.
