Bucket Hooks Hooks on buckets

Thank to all! I think I am going with the grab hooks. One in the center welded to a thick steel plate and bolted to bucket with large thick washers on the inside. Possibly weld hooks near the ends (on top) of the bucket.

Thanks also for extra info on the chains. I will be needing to make up some too. We deal with AW direct http://www.awdirect.com (chains and cables) for our recovery and towing service. I don't know if their pricing is good. But their service is excellent and very quick.

Rowski - I'd really recommend you check out the Labonville link and order one of their catalogs. I've got the AW-Direct catalog, too, and you can get much stronger chain and hooks from Labonville for 50% less. And their service is great, too.

After reading this thread I noticed that some grab hooks I bought last summer at an ARCO dealer in Ontario say 'forged and made in USA' (Well, I suppose 'forged' would be natural since the idea of a cast hook seems a little unusual). However, it's a curious thing that people in the US have to look for made in made in USA hooks, and in Canada, USA hooks just seem to fall out of the hardware bins.

Mark, Thanks. Are they are out of NH? If they are I got a catalog comming. They are closer to me than AW Direct. I need to talk sometime about hydralics for the rear. As for the rear hydraulics, what were you planning to do? (When you get time, of course.)

TomG - That's interesting. Do you know what grade those hooks are or who the manufacturer is? Are there any other markings on them? Do you remember how much they cost? It does seem strange that they'd be so common there and so uncommon here.

I guess I just don't work as hard as some of you guys; I can't recall ever breaking a chain hook.

Bird - I've never broken one lifting anything (fortunately, I think it would be hard to do with our equipment), but I sure have pulling trees. It can be pretty scary, too.
