Re: please describe hooks

TomG - Thanks for checking! Do you know if the hooks can be purchased separately and if they'll fit on 3/8" chain?

Re: please describe hooks

From the pic, it doesn't look like a ring suitable for 3/8th chain would go through the hole in the hook. I seem to recall seeing larger versions of the hook. There probably is a 3/8th version that would be a better match for 3/8th chain.

The dealer guy I talked to seemed to think that any place that handles transport chain also would have these hooks. I'm guessing that hooks would be available separately, but they'd have to be made up by welding on a ring (or whatever it's called). Unlike standard grab hooks, there is no pin and cotter pin for easy attachment.

I'll check the next time I'm talking to a dealer or specialty hardware place. It could be some days. Right now, we're spending time at our camp. Hey, we had a mink visit our back door couple of evenings ago. Nice to look at, but I'm happy we're not keeping chickens. I know, this is a digression from tractor subjects, so I'll stop.

You might try an e-mail to the dealer and see what comes up. If these hooks are standard items in Canada and not in the U.S., due to differences in standards, I wonder if there are any insurance issues?

8/2

Off topic but...

TomG, Animal control officers just killed 2 rabid minks a few miles from me (in VA). I don't know if CN has a rabies prblm, but around here no one had thought to worry about these guys.

Just FYI,
Jim
