Do I remember correctly, you have the Piranha grapple??

I have the HD grapple rake from Markham Welding. For some pictures you can see my thread entitled "Botazilla is Born!!". I do like my grapple but I can see where each design would have its advantages and disadvantages over the other. If cost and weight were no object I would likely favor the clamshell design type. But I was able to get my industrial strength grapple for less than half the cost of the clamshell type.

Chuck, can you say what the full price was with shipping and any 3rd valve costs (did you say you already had the 3rd valve option on the loader?)?

I ordered the 6 foot anbo root grapple yesterday. Clamshell configuration supposed to be good for raking both forward and backward. Not quite sure how that goes. I guess open rake is tilted down all the way for back raking with the top jaw and less tilted for forward raking with bottom jaw. Anyone have experience with these??

No clamshell grapple owners out there. Oh well, I'll let you know how the raking goes after I get mine!!

I'm here!!! I use mine for back raking all the time. It works great. Have fun with your new, soon to be favorite, implement...

The anbo guys said you could push with it in closed position for more aggressive forward raking. I guess you don't want to hit immovable objects or risk twisting loader arms!!

I already had a 3rd function valve installed as an option. It was around $500. Of course there are cheaper ways to control a grapple. My grapple was $1643 plus $111.09 overnight freight shipping. Remember, it is seriously heavy duty. Markham's 66" Light-duty grapple rake with one cylinder is $1100.

This is a question I have been pondering for months and must blame myself for being frustrated as I have watched others purchase and rave about how much they like their grapple. There are a lot of posts on here about grapples. Can't say there are too many that complain no matter what type they bought.
I would ask if anyone has used one to clean up broken hay bales? Which type will work better? My thought is that no matter which type, you will need one with tines close together to keep hay from falling through. My thought is the either type will work on the large part, but what about the small stuff?
