Looking to add a rear blade to my 30 hp 4 wheel drive tractor. Looked at a 35 bush hog model. Need help with this or any other brand suggestions. I have a low lying area that gets washed out and creates a rut. Just want to smooth this out with a blade. Thanks.

I like A&B Eagleline ,heavy steel and engineered well. Good luck, possibly you could look at a few dealers in your area save ,on shipping one

I have a woods 6' rear blade. I think it was a waste of $. I use it for balast and to drag snow. It works ok on the driveway (dirt road) in the spring. but that is it.
I bought a heavy duty Woods Rock rake that works a lot better and more versitle- you can rake the woods, or grade the drive, the rake also turns up the gravel better thasn the blade. I think it is easier to back drag with the heal of the FEL than it is to put on the rear blade.

Rear blades IMHO, are relatively simple in design and similar. In general, the heavier the blade the better the construction. If you want to dig better, get a heavier blade. Light duty blade (250lb) is good for moving loose material or smoothing the surface. For you tractor, go with a 6' blade. I have a 250lb and 800lb rear blade. Also have 2 box blades.

I agree that 6' is about right for your tractor. I would choose Woods or Landpride for top quality, and King Kutter for lowest price. Need to decide if you want just a basic blade or desire one that tilts sideways for making ditches. The tilt function increases the price considerably, so only get it if you expect to use it.

I personally have a Frontier 7' 2184 that works very well on both snow and dirt. Not sure who made it but would guess Woods or another high end maker (Frontier equipment is made by other companies). No real reason to buy Frontier unless you have a greene tractor or get a better price on it than other brands, which is why I'm not recommending that specific brand.

Thanks for the input....Radman...was curious if I should consider a box blade instead and if I should also go with a 6' or5'?

Minimum requirement is that it must be wider than rear tires, preferably at least a few inches wider. For 30 hp, I would lean toward a 5' model - if wide enough. 66" or 72" would work if that is what you want but at times will be more than tractor can handle. Box blade and scarifers will certainly dig better in hard dirt/soil than even a heavy rear blade and better at dragging dirt from one location to another than a rear blade. Rear blade better than box blade with snow. Both can smooth out loose dirt/material but the rear blade is easier and quicker in general. For light surface grading on a driveway, rear blade much better. Each has their pros and cons. Depends on use.

Thanks again. I'm ordering a 65" BushHog box blade. 5' will not quite cover tire width. I like the welded 3 pt. frame construction, double strap hitch (I've seen a few bent pins on single strap on used ones) good weight 510# and pin adjustment for scarifier teeth.
