Part of BAR-BOB Ranch is very flat and low. Holds Water a LONG time. Some trees leaning due to mud around roots. Objective-drain swamp. Have been hitting the high spots when water standing with hoe to create a trench. Digging in mud and standing water is messy and hard work but finally got a defined trench about 700 feet long that would move water. When dry enough for tractor decided to try my sub-soiler. Objective loosen dirt enough to remove with shovel. WOW what a tool. In less than 30 min I made two passes along my trench. Tractor stopped at every big tree due to roots. Lifting sub-soiler cut right thru every root, some over three inches. Now have very well define and deep trench over 700 feet long thru woods. Dirt removed will by used to fill the many stump holes near trench. With experiance under belt decided to tackle front where there is no ditch at edge of road. Five minutes and done

You used 3 words together that are no longer politically correct.

"objective-drain swamp"

Naughty naughty

I think you may have just been installing a gravity powered di-hydrogenated oxygen motion inducer with a zero carbon footprint.

Here are pic's as requested. Sorry it took me so long. Had to figure out how to get pic file size small enough to be accepted.
"Two passes" is results of out and back with subsoilerr as deep as it would go. Note trees leaning due to long periods of super wet ground. Hopefully ditch will help.
"Three inch root" Subsoiler would not cut thur going forward. When forward motion stopped due to root, all I had to do was lift and it would cut all but the larger roots.
"After shovel" With loose dirt, shovel clean-up was easy

I love using a subsoiler. Watching that thing rip through the ground gets the testosterone flowing.:D

i hate shovels: looks like a good job for a middle buster, then a blade to smooth out the sides.

I was thinking along those same lines. Step one, cut the ditch with the sub-soiler. Step two, use the middlebuster to widen it a little bit and push some of the dirt up and out. Step 3, take a rear blade, tilt & angle it so the leading corner is dragging down into the new mini-ditch and let it pull the dirt out and slightly away from the ditch. Then it might even be possible to come and scoop up some of the loose spoils with a front end loader.

Still, it was a nice job!

I'd just prefer to try to do it without the hand shoveling.
