Can anyone tell me when they were manufactured. Any other misc. info also appreciated.

The 24-T replaced the 14-T in 1962.

No intent to hijack this thread but I'm always tryin' to learn more about older model balers, too.
What was the recommended pto hp for these models? Thanks.

The 14-T was designed to work with the early 1962 JD models like the 2010 (46 pto hp).

There's a photo in my JD book showing a JD-2010 pulling a 14-T that has a No. 1 bale ejector attached that's tossing bales into a fairly large hay wagon (with sides that look to be about 8-ft hgh) that's also being towed by the 2010. Pretty impressive for a 46-hp tractor.

Anybody know how long they were made? Is there a source on the web for matching serial numbers with manufacturing dates?

I found one reference to the 24T being manufactured FROM 1962 until replaced in 1982. That's in an older "farm equipment blue book" price guide I found in my office. I don't recall seeing any new ones beyond mid-70's.

I know them to be a very reliable baler. My elderly neighbor has one. He's not very good at setting his baler and tries to keep his bales light so they are pretty sloppy but that's not the baler's fault. A 46 hp tractor will play with this baler. I've baled thousands of bales with an Oliver 60T baler, pulling a wagon that could haul 80 bales, with a 641 Ford tractor. The 60T is very similar in size to the 24T.

Hello All,

I am new to this site and look forward to being here and learning. I am curious as to the dimensions of the 24T, in particular the width? Is it greater than 8 feet in width? There are several in my area for sale that I have not called on yet. My trailer is only 8 feet wide so any information would be helpful.

Thanks for the feedback

I have an 8' trailer I use to haul my 24T. The tires will set right at the edge of the trailer and part of the baler will overhang the side. The tricky part is getting the baler off the trailer, as the wagon tongue wants to dig into the ground as it comes down the ramps. Is anyone using poly twine in a 24T? I have always used sisal without any trouble, but am going to bale some straw and buyer would prefer poly twine. Not worth tearing up my baler, though for some straw.
