I was just admiring RAW's forestry mulcher and wondering if anyone has seen something along the same lines for a CUT that runs off of hydraulics and is lighter in weight. The property has 3 to 4" sapplings that the brush hog will not take out, but is too small and dense to make sense of it doing with a chain saw..

Carl,

All those mulchers are Industrial with a capital "I". The hydraulics are 40 - 50 - 60 - 70 gpm and they need 70 to 100 hp to operate. Even the small ones are way spendy. It's probably best to have a person with an AVS or similar come in and munch it up for you. Unless you are going into the biz....

Hey! Here's what I found in all of my searching.

The mulching heads that use hydraulics just aren't suited for tractor hydraulics. But there are a couple of options for PTO mulchers.

There is Seppi (who made mine) and Loftness is about to release one for smaller tractors. The Loftness unit is a scaled-down version of the monster they run on the New Holland TV145. I believe they said it will cost roughly $30K though. Seppi makes some PTO mulchers smaller than mine too. FAE also makes a PTO mulcher.

Also, there are plenty of brush-hogs out there that will handle larger material.

In a perfect world, someone would design a mulching head that could run off of tractor hydraulics (or an added pump) and would mount to the attachment plate of a FEL. I would have made a very different purchase decision in that case.
