I need to start at the beginning here.
I NEED a landscape rake.. Went to TSC and looked at King Kutter. Ive seen better..but they would do for what I need. Cost was $475. I asked about the gauge wheels for it. My mom has a better idea of whats what than they do..they didnt even know they existed...so I call King Kutter DIRECT. KK told me...$200 for a set of wheel..!!! ( Thats total BS! )

Then I went to a locally made rake. Girl priced me a 5 footer for $460 WITH the wheels! Im thinking ALLLL RIGHT!! I called them yesterday to get it in for me and they called me back today and said...WRONG PRICE??? The wheels are $220 MORE. I calmly told them to "Stick that right in your.."Well..anyway ..I declined.

Today I did some telephone shopping. Got a price on a WOODS that is built heavier and has more features...$475 I told the guy to get it in...and then I asked..BTW can I get wheels with it? He said SURE...a set of wheels for it from Woods is...get this now..$300!!!!

So I guess my bottom line question is..?? Where is it that these companys forge the GOLD into what looks like rake wheel hardware????

 :D

I totally understand. I bought a Howse 6' rake for $415. The wheels are an additional $200. I have some 2" tubing and now just need to find some wheels I suppose in order to make a set.

I paid $800. for a landpride 1560 w/wheel kit, that was in 4 years ago. Dont buy a rake without the wheel kit, the wheels add so much control & dimension to the rake, i would go as far as saying that a rake without wheels is a different implement.

There have been several posts in the past few years about building your own gauge wheels for a landscape rake. Here is mine with pics and a parts list. Total cost was $35.

OHHH yeah! Ive captured about every pic..and copy and pasted so much text Ive about got my HD filled...*S*
Im buying the HF tire/rims because they have the fork already made up...and all I need to do for that end of it is cut a matching piece of 1/4" sheet to bolt up to them on the top.

OK fellas, at the risk of sounding stupid, please explain to me why you would need gauge wheels for the landscape rake (I call it a rock rake)? I have been using my rake for 4 years without wheels. I simply adjust the height with my 3PT.
Not trying to say I know better, I really want to know if I am missing something. Tell me what I need to know, once you stop laughing at my question.

That question has been asked and answered numerous times too. Just do a search and you will find several topics on just your question.

I need a set also. $200 isn't too bad if they were heavy enough for a 6' box blade. I'm probably gonna have to build some it looks like and I'll have the $200 in materials when I done I'm sure, but I'll get some fairly heavy duty units for my effort. I'm planning on using the Agri-Supply rotary mower rear wheel solid tire and the roller bearing hubs, probably $100 for them. Then a trip to the local Steel warehouse for some 2x3 rectangular tube and some 1/2" x 3" flat bar. Then back over to the Tractor feed store for some bolts. Need some kind of pipe and bushing combination for the pivot system, ain't got that figured out yet. Maybe two or three nights of puttern around in the shop and I should have somethin' bolt on. bjr
