I'm adding two valves to the JD 4100, for general purpose like T&T, grapple, dump box, etc. I was looking at the Cross sectionals, 12 GPM, Northern Catalog numbers 2011612-C161, a 4-way 3-position spring centered valve. Does this sound like the right choice? They also sell them with float, I suppose that couldn't hurt to add to one of them?? And, do I need to order an inlet section and an outlet section, they are available with power beyond... man do I ask a lot of questions! Help!

I used these exact valves in my TnT project. They work fine, but they are physically large so keep that in mind when sorting out where to locate them. If you search under customization for a thread titled "going down the TnT path" you will find pictures of the valve assembly I put together.

The 4 way, 3 position valve with spring center is the right one to use. You could get float on one, but so far I haven't found any need for it.

Yes, you need to get an inlet section and an outlet section. Their catalogue is a bit confusing, at least it was for me. If you want power beyond, you order the power beyond outlet section, otherwise get the regular outlet section. I originally thought power beyond required purchasing both the outlet AND the power beyond kit - not so.

I can't help you on whether or not you need power beyond - I just don't knwo enough about the JD to tell you.

Good luck

Hayden, THANKS for the pointer back to "going down the tnt path" again. I reread it all and relearned some things. I like your choice of valve mounting, as it eliminates the hoses from the valve to the quick fittings, very good idea.
As I feared, the Cross sectionals are a bit larger than I'd like. Maybe someone has a smaller alternative idea. I do want two valves, power beyond, maybe float on one.

Try this place called Surplus Center, 1-800-488-3407. Ask for a catalog or they can help you over the phone. They have a huge selction of valves, pumps, etc. They do have 2 spool compact style valves for around 100.00.

Maybe some of this can also help.

The sectional control valve Northern Hydraulics lists; #201612 12 GPM is a Prince valve. http://www.crossmfg.com

I also needed an inlet section with relief valve too. I have no outlet section, the hydraulic fitting simply threads into the valve body. No power beyond plug either. Having a PB option would allow you expand the system even more, like another remote valve.

Northern also advertises a selector valve too which can divert flow to two separate circuits using only one valve.

The single valve block itself is only 2.25"x 5". Total width is 3.5" with the inlet and relief valve section attached and 8" long overall from the end of the spool cap to the handle shaft. My JD dealer had the catalogs for the valves.

I also got a Tisco Cat 1 toplink. Just received it. $185.00 delivered.
Welded cylinder, 20" eye to eye closed length, 8" stroke. No welding, grinding, or reducer bushings needed to make it fit. Came supplied with two 90 degree STOR swivel adapters too.

Lookin' foward to seein' your finished project. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Oops, I messed up my original post when I listed the Northern part number and called them Cross brand valves. They are, as you stated, Prince brand. I will go to both web pages and try to get a handle on which might be more compact.
One more question: Do I need a relief valve? Doesn't the tractor have one? Or is it a safety issue since the valve is being added with hose and fittings which could burst if there was on relief valve at the new dual valve assembly??? Thanks again guys. And thanks for the number for Surplus center, I have to read more before calling them but I will...

DFB, you have the same cylinder I have. The only trouble is that it would tilt implements much farther back than needed, but was too long to tilt them far enough forward, so I had it shortened a couple of inches.

Bird, What was the length of your original toplink?

When this one is closed its only a 1/2" longer than the original factory toplink. I think the only time I ever had it shortened all the way in was to see how high I could get the boompole to raise up.

Is the kubota toplink shorter?

DFB, I don't know whether I mis-measured or what, but I had made myself a note that my original top link was 19.75" collapsed and 30" fully extended, but after I put the hydraulic top link on, it just didn't suit me until I had it shortened (an inch or so on each end) and now it'll tilt the implements plenty of distance in either direction.

OK, I called the Surplus Center 800 number, and they faxed me a page out of their catalog showing several valves. The ones that look really good are listed as:
New Eaton-Cessna 30920 Directional control valves for control of hydraulic cylinders. Compact design makes it ideal for small tractors and other low-flow applications. Open Center, spring return, includes handles. ...
5 GPM, 2500 PSI, in/out SAE 8, work port is SAE 6. Adjustable relief valve set at 2000PSI.
Item 9-4502 2 spool double acting. Size 6.75" x 4.75" X 2". Ship weigh 7 lbs. $175.50
There's also a three-spool design. they want $239.50 for that one. Unfortunately its not configed as two double-acting and a single acting. It is three double acting. So, either valve leaves me without a way to operate a single acting cylinder such as might be cheaply available for a dump-wagon. I love the small size, they sound very adaptable. The price is higher than the Prince sectionals but these Cessna valves sound about half as big. Any comments?........Thanks...
