They are cheap enough - but are they any good? What are their dimensions and weight?

Well I've had one for several yrs now and I think the cap is 1000lbs. I've sure tested it many times with no signs of failure. New ones have half way point to attach for when the load is too heavy. Remember when using a boom pole its moment arm-- Distance times weight equals the load. ex. 1000lbs hanging 6' back on a boom ploe is equivalent to 6000lbs. at the draw bar. They are real handy just got to realize the limitations.

Wow, Ok then its plenty strong as I've tested mine to well over 1000lbs. many times. Now where the heck did I get the notion it was rated that high???? HMMMM

I think this is the same one that TSC sells. The bushhog weighs in the neigborhood of 500...

Just out of curiousity, what are some of the things you'd use a boom pole for (assuming that you also had a functioning FEL)? I could see myself using one to skid (small) logs (with the lower hook of course). What are some other uses?

What tractor is your boom pole mounted on the loader bucket of?

I was thinking of making such a rig to lift roof trusses for a new machine shed but do not want to learn the hard way about leverage vs. stability.

Everyone's uses would be different. I built my 3pt boom pole and use it on average of once a week to do a multitude of things. My last use was to set an old wooden electric line pole in a hole for a Martin Birdhouse.

A guy gave me a wrecked two wheel trailer. I used my Boom Pole to lift it off my tandem axle trailer.

I had a couple junk engine blocks laying in the corner of my shop and used the Boom Pole to set them in the back of a pickup.

I built a steel bridge to be used to cross a ditch at my farm with ATVs. Used the Boom Pole to pick up the bridge one end at a time to load on a trailer.

The list goes on and on. My Boom Pole is adjustable to gain lift at the expense of height. It is wayyyyyy stronger than the lift capability of my Kubota. Very handy attachment that was built from scrap metal and has paid for itself many times over.

It's a Mahindra 6000 4WD. With loaded tires it weighs in the neigborhood of 9500 to 10,000 lbs. Quite a horse...As far as putting up trusses this will give you an idea of how far I can "go up"....The loader is rated almost to 4500 lbs as "breakout". don't think I'll be trying to pick anything up that it can't handle..

Did you say "small" logs? Here is my L3400HST pulling a LARGE white oak, one of the 40+ logs I used my boom pole to drag out of the woods on my property (Thanks a lot Katrina!).
